Air Wave and Dazzler

Even as a kid, I thought that skates were kind of a silly addition to a superhero costume.  They just seemed impractical - sure you could get around quickly, but then they were stuck on your feet.  A skateboard would make more sense, you can always jump off of that if necessary.  Better yet, get Tony Stark to make you some of those cool retractable skates that he has.

Didn't Rocket Racer and Night Thrasher have skateboards?

Yes, and the late Dwayne McDuffie once pitched a book teaming them up to point out the absurdity of it.

"That's how they roll!" I wish I'd written that.

Could throw in Iron Man, too- he used to use built-in skates sometimes...

I'm with you on those skates, Ross. Real, regular roller skates tend to be kind of heavy and awkward for getting around short distances, on stairs, etc. One could always make them from more modern, lightweight materials, but still, a good way to get the wheels out of the way of one's soles would be helpful.

Still, ditch the skates and make a few other updates, and I think Dazzler would be awesome in live action, perhaps on the new Disney Plus streaming service.

@Tony: I did do that same pun a couple of weeks ago, on my personal Facebook page, but of course Ross couldn't have known that. I'm not sure which application is funnier, this or going downhill in a tractor tire.

That's high praise, Tony, thanks!

...And I wrote my comment without reading the text first. I see you already mentioned Iron Man's skates. Oh, well...

@Alaric & Mike: Not as absurd as the roller-blades of that treasonous ex-SHIELD agent called...The Blue Racer!*

*He really should have been among the more permanent fatalities at the Ohio branch of The Bar With No Name.

@Cary: If you're referring to the BLUE STREAK, I totally agree. The Blue Racer, however, was an anthropomorphic snake (and a Saturday morning cartoon character, at that) from Depatie-Freleng.

When Kitty Pryde's costume had roller skates (aka, "The Abomination"), it was probably pretty easy for her to doff those as well. But then again... NO ONE wants to remember that costume!

another great one here- I've been saving a number of the covers of the stories I'd love to take a shot and write. So far I've about 200-300 at least. Besides this one, the biggest ones I'd love to work on or at least I've ideas for. For ex the Roustabouts and how they formed. The Squadron Supreme vs the CSA, Wildcat vs the X-Men, the GA /Hawkeye X-overs, Hawkman/ Falcon x-overs, Red Tornado/Vision X-overs, the JSA vs Galactus, the JLA & the Squadron Supreme, The Titans vs Galactus, just to name a few. If interested in hearing more let me know- Chris

P.S. @ Ross: roller skates are still cooler than figure skates that operate on the Trickster principle. *Koff-Golden Glider-Koff!*

Hmm...I thought the original Air Wave used his 'skates' to ride electrical lines, not simply skating around the streets. It was riding the lines that supposedly got him around so fast.

My mistake. Wikipedia points out that Larry Jordan had antennae in helmet and circuitry in belt allowed him to eavesdrop on police band frequencies or intercept telephone calls, and travelled at the speed of electricity along telephone lines on collapsible skates built into his boots.
