Batman and The Shield

This cover was another case where it may look like all that was needed was to insert the Shield image on top of the Batman image - but there was a bit of clean up and prep work before I could get to that point.  Here's a look at the room staging:

Love these retro covers.
I've only become aware of this version of the Shield very recently. But as a kid I knew all about the Fly and the Jaguar (the Fly you have done but how about more of these guys?) - so not sure why the Shield was missing. But... I have fond memories of another (sadly short-lived) version of the Shield, by Jack King Kirby. It'd be great to have that Shield pop up in the STFverse someday too. (Maybe when the Shield)s) decide to take Nick Fury to task for stealing their name.)

Forgot to say thanks for the behind the scenes look Mr Oz

What Davejonz said. Especially with regard to how much cutting, pasting, and overlaying you obviously have to do to make these posted images seem so effortless!

As to the question posed by the title? That sounds like something the Riddler might ask. And, given that this is an adventure of the Golden Age Batman, I'll say it's an alliance of convenience between Edward Nygma and...Hans Krueger!*

*The Shield's most persistent adversary during WWII.

You probably already know how much I agree with Cary about how hard you work on this, Ross, all for our enjoyment. And about how much we appreciate it.

How many obscure, third-party Golden Age heroes have you used on this blog, Ross? Do you think you'd be able to gather them into a team of their own? Given the World War II setting, you could call them The Patriots or something.

@Cary: I wonder if Hans could be Freddy's grandfather?

He might also be the son of G'8s WWI arch-enemy; Herr Doktor Krueger!

P.S.--Given how many of those Golden Agers are no longer under copyright, it might be better for them to form a team called... "The Public Domain!"

Or, at least, have that be the name of their headquarters.

Class is in session. Multi-layers. Details. Very fulfilling if you have the passion for it.
No Shield needed. That is a love that is not easy to find. Good luck class.

Interesting. Hans Krueger was also the name of the Nazi villain in "The Master Infiltrator" in Weird War Tales #97. His plans were foiled by secret agent Robert Boothe. Writer Bob Rozakis "borrowed" my name, and gave me the original script afterwards. We both found out later that Robert Boothe was also the name of the U.S. president who instigated World War 3 in Judge Dredd.

Did The Shield come with his own bad guy?

In the 1960's, he had an arch-enemy called "The Eraser."

@Anon@9:43: Now I want to see The Eraser on this blog. It's too bad there aren't any pencil-themed superheroes.

Ross could always google the Mighty Crusaders Network.

Love the BTS. Thanks!

Speaking of Crusaders...

I know I've requested this before. But, I thought I'd try one last time. How about Dr. Solar, Megaton Man, Cyclops of the X-men and Comet of the original Mighty Crusaders teaming up as...the Super-Visors!

I'll second that emotion. :-)
