WOW!! You've outdone yourself Ross. This is. definitely not a regular issue type cover. Tabloid, definitely.
Story wise, easy. Sulu or some other crew member has an indoor garden (Mantrap), that includes Earth plants or seeds. Swamp Thing found himself able to jump his consciousness to the ship while they were in Space Dock. A little sight seeing.
Beautiful story for a fantastic cover.
Or Swamp Thing might have become a cosmically transcended being. A la Sequoia, son of Mantis, or even Groot as an Eternal!
The Enterprise might even finally have a crew-person from a plant-based race of beings like the Phylosians! But, with Alec Holland's time-traveling consciousness co-inhabiting the body. Similar to Dr. Sam Beckett of "Quantum Leap" fame.
Now, there's an idea for a sequel cover! A Scott Bakula homage with Sam Beckett having leapt into the body of Jonathan Archer.
When I saw what the combo was for today's cover, my thoughts ran pretty much exactly along the lines of your first sentence here, Ross, with any of the plot ideas already mentioned.
@Cary: I actually came up with that exact Quantum Leap/Enterprise crossover suggestion a few years ago. So far, though, the only "same actor" covers that I'm aware of Ross having done have been Michael Keaton and Patrick Stewart. (Several of us are also eager for a Ryan Reynolds cover, and I personally think that a four-way mashup with Josh Brolin would be a hoot.)
Well, as a fellow Scott Bakula fan, I'm willing to compromise on a QL/Lord of Illusions cover simulation.
PS @Other Readers: On the topic of "same actor" covers, I've also brought up J. K. Simmons (Jim Gordon/J. Jonah Jameson), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker/the Joker), Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury/Mace Windu/Frozone), and David Tennant (The Doctor/Kilgrave).
@Ross: One other interesting "same actor" idea just occurred to me: Tom Baker, as both The Doctor and Bendu. The latter is an immensely powerful being from Star Wars Rebels who I think would be an interesting interaction for the Doctor in any incarnation, though the Fourth in particular even if Tom hadn't provided the voice.
@Bob How about Batman visiting the town of Quahog, from Family Guy? See where I'm going with this? Heh heh heh...
