Gil Kane is my favorite Marvel cover artist and he has worked with many talented inkers over the years, often to great effect. Still, I always enjoyed seeing work that he inked himself, There seemed to be an extra bit of raw power in the images when he did so.

Oooh! Intriguing! Is this the Hydra double-agent Cap created by the Red Skull after (once more) getting his hands on the Cosmic Cube? Or is he a time-traveling Skrull trying to get his hands on Chameleon Boy (leader of the LSH Espionage Squad)?
I will, of course, be tuning in for part two to see how on-or-off the mark my guesses were.

Gil did the same thing with Superman's cape and i never understood the dynamics of the cape arking like that.

It just struck me that I've never noticed Cap wearing/carrying his shield on his right arm before. So I went back and counted. Out of 172 appearances in STF, he's only worn the shield on the right 42 times. 'Nuff said!

At first glance, before I read the text, I thought that maybe Cap had been frozen again, or put in some other kind of stasis. That would be an interesting tale in itself.
So would the Skrull-Durlan War that Cary alludes to. In fact, I think that would be worth a brief or recurring story arc, especially if this was a real comic.
@Reg: I think the in-universe explanation would be that Cap is ambidextrous. The real-world explanation, of course, is that Ross sometimes reverses images to make them fit the story he's telling, since Cap's costume is otherwise completely symmetrical.
And sometimes the artist just makes a mistake. I always liked Nick Cardy's cover on Flash #222, but it bugs me that Green Lantern is wearing his ring on his left hand instead of his right.

I thought that was Gil Kane artwork when I saw Superboy. But I don't remember him drawing the other legionnaires in their older costumes before. What issue was the Legion part of this cover taken from?
It's from the cover of one of the DC Digest reprint books.
