Captain Kirk and Superman

The first two Superman and Star Trek movies along with 2001: A Space Odyssey made huge impressions on me as a kid. Seeing them combined into one mega-epic  would probably have melted my young mind - but I would have gone out with a smile on my face.

I bow before the greatness and wonder that is your blog, Ross. Somewhere there is a parallel dimension where this comic is on sale...

i saw 2001 a space odyssey on the week of its release, i was definitely too young to understand it. love the idea of kirk & clark exploring together…

You know, DC and IDW should collaborate on a real world publication of just such a team-up. Because I know just which mystery the title could reference: "Where is the real planet Galador?"

Not many people know this. But, when Jim Shooter helped bring Rom the Spaceknight to literary life, circa, 1979, the name of Rom's homeworld is one he had thought up four years earlier for ACTION COMICS vol. 1/#451!

As Cary said, this would be a very interesting crossover for the companies to actually do. How these two are brought together and transported back in time would be a challenge for the writer (perhaps it's the doing of Q or the Guardian of Forever), but it could be done.

Speaking of Q, I wonder what it would be like if he were to step in for the namesake (or lettersake?) who works with James Bond.

Good idea, Bob! And the crossover could use photo-captures of Sean Connery and Alexander Siddig from STAR TREK: DS9. Because, as every good Trekkie knows, Dr. Bashir had a thing for holographic spy-fi on that show.

I actually built a small diorama of the crew from ST finding a monolith on a planet. (HO figures repainted and a Johnny Lightning shuttlecraft.)

What Davejonz, Carycomic and Bob Greenwade said! This is a definite smash Ross. Great start to my Monday!

My guess is... when the Monolith opens, and they travel through the Stargate, Kirk and Supes will have to face... Stanley Kubrick waiting on the other side. ;)

btw, did anyone here see Collectors' Call on MeTV? They had a good show about comics last night.

Which Collector? Taneleer Tivan; or the evil alternate-future Corky Baxter?

Collector's Call is a show on ME TV on Sunday night.6:30 pm eastern time.
Each week is a collector with a huge assortment of a particular favorite subject.
Coverings have been Star Trek, Dr Who, Star Wars, the Monkies, Superman, the inside of an airplane --1st class, etc, etc.

Ross, decades ago, DC had Superman meet an alien version of the Enterprise and crew. The twist... their captain had gone a bit nuts. If you can't use the real thing, you might get away with a wierd copy.
But, in this case, a cover of special interest...the better of the different versions to pair up with unlimited potentials. High drama potentials when things were still being learned about. Love this cover.

That's the show Anon 3:14, interesting stuff! Ahh, Anon @ 2:10 pm has a good suggestion for a cover: Show a competition between The Collector, Kang, Catwoman and maybe Bizarro; with his Hall of Junk? "The Most Toys..."

Or, failing that, something for the anime fans among your readership.

Fairy Tale (from ROSARIO+) vs. Fairy Tail (by Hiro Mashima)!

Or, The Planet of the Apes find the Monolith?

Has anything changed? I haven’t received an email alerting me to a new issue since the Stingray and Dolphin team-up. I’ve been checking my spam folder as well, but no luck.

"It's Gary Mitchell's tombstone!"

@Tobor: I only recall the Supergirl adventure that seemed to be a take-off of Jack London's "Seawolf" (with mind-controlling eye glasses thrown in for good measure).

How about Luke Skywalker Versus Gary Mitchell? I mean seriously, another 24 hours and Gary Mitchell would have been more powerful than Darth Sidious could handle

Bob Greenwade said...

@Ken: Your "The Most Toys" story probably should include Larfleeze. And maybe Smaug.

@Ross: I'm also imagining the Warehouse 13 crew going after the One Ring.

@BG: Using the time sorter from the feature film version of "HP/TPOA"?

Ken Roskos said...

Good call Richard S.! Ahh, I forgot about Larfleeze and Smaug. Thanks Bob! And that may not be the Monolith. It could be the portal to the Phantom Zone.

Or, even worse, the Multiverse of Madness!

Seriously, though: didn't Keir Dullea turn into Paul Stanley of KISS at the end of this flick?

Carycomic said...

Lol! Wrong Star Child. :-)

Detective Tobor said...

@Anon10:01, it was the alien doctor that told Kal-el about the captain and his danger. Either Action or Superman, in the 70's i think. It was interesting.

Carycomic said...

@Tobor: you _think_ it was interesting? You're not dead certain?

Cover of the month!

Great cover, Love both Star Trek and Superman, I could see Spock here too, he like the man in blue is an intelligent alien( ok half alien) who lives among humans, also wears blue, and both are pretty logical and strong.
