West Coast Avengers Vs. The Fatal Five

The wonderfully creepy Fatal Five was always a welcome sight in the Legion of Super-Heroes stories that I read growing up.  Easily my favorite LSH villains, I wish they had battled other teams in the DCU more regularly.  How do you think they would have fared against the WCA?

How about Roger Rabbit vs Captain Carrot (also named Roger Rabbit)?

@Anon633: Um, I believe Captain Carrot's alter ago is Rodney Rabbit.

Hmm, it says in the DC Database that his full name is Roger Rodney Rabbit. Bet there's a story behind that...

I certainly would've loved seeing Wonder Man vs. that guy from the planet Engtu who disintegrated stuff with the palm of his hand. What Bob Greenwade might describe as battling...Mano a mano!

@Anon814 aka Anon633: whoa! Deja vu. :-)

Yeah, the creepy factor was high with the FF, for sure. The Persuader was the only really normal one in the bunch. OK, the Empress was hot but she had that big eye following her around.

Captain Carrot was Roger Rabbit until Disney began filming "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" whereupon the Captain's middle name was revealed to be Rodney which he abruptly adopted as his principal name (for no known reason).

The Fatal Five certainly do have their creepiness built in -- at least Mano, Tharok, and Validus. The West Coast Avengers would certainly have their work cut out for them, and take some outstanding out-of-the-box thinking to overcome their foes, even with Wonder Man and Moon Knight on the team.

Here's a thought, though: Put the Emerald Empress going solo against Doctor Strange. The Emerald Eye of Ekron vs. the Eye of Agamotto! The title: "Cross-eyed!"

@Daviticus: Maybe they're cousins?

@Cary: No, I wouldn't describe it that way... but I'm glad you did. It's a good pun. (Have a cookie.)

@Futabakun: Yeah, that's pretty much the story I was imagining.

BTW I also learned from DC Database that CC's latest limited series, "Captain Carrot and the Final Ark", was never completed. That kinda sucks. :(

Since the Fatal Five were a serious threat to the Legion of Super-Heroes--who vastly outnumbered them AND had, at their peak, FOUR characters with Kryptonian/Daxamite-level powers--I'd guess the WCA will get curb-stomped.

I'm a strong believer in the "any given Sunday" principle for matchups. If Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys face up against Galactus, there will prove to be a way for nonpowered kids wearing pillowcases to deal with the Eater of Worlds. Somehow.

That being said, the Fatal Five vs. the WCA is definitely more in the Firelord vs. Spider-Man range of conflicts. The former were, after all, designed to go up against a team that outnumbered them and included multiple Kryptonian-equivalents plus similarly superlative opponents. (Also Duo Damsel and Bouncing Boy. But still.)

The West Coasters will doubtless win (or at least hold their own till they can call in reinforcements), but they'll have to be clever about it.

I can see this fight happening because of the Beyonder.

The most interesting scenarios that I can come up with for these two lineups are as follows=

Mano attacks Wonder Man with his disk & disintegrates him in front of the WCA team causing Iron Man to boot-jet over to him first only to have his armor disintegrated as well but manages to take him down with some Captain America-taught moves. Dr. Pym shrinks down the approaching Emerald Eye enough for Mockingbird to knock it down E.Empress's throat which turns her green & knocks her unconscious.

Part 2 = Hawkeye shoots explosive arrows toward Persuader & Tharok which has them on the defensive long enough for Tigra to sneak up swiftly behind Tharok & start shredding both sides of him with her razor-sharp claws. Meanwhile, Moon Knight has put some slick moves against the Pesuafder & puts him down for the count. Validus is behind M. Knight & attacks him with his mental power but Monny's unique split persona is something he ha never encountered & the surprising feedback knocks him out to the shock of all. Wonder man reanimates himself due to the common energy source which reveals promise for the planet Mano had originally destroyed. An embarrassed Beyonder sends both teams back to their repective times/places.

@LHN: Bouncing Boy is easy to underestimate. His power may seem goofy, but his tactical sense and ability to figure angles in his head make him someone to not mess with. In fact, quite some time ago I suggested that he be teamed with Squirrel Girl because she, too, is easy to underestimate.

How about the Great Lakes Avengers and the Inferior Five?

would the Fatal 5 have stopped at a diner along the way? Shame they don't have a computer they can ask how they did in the past on any confrontation. At least someone should wonder about it.

Carycomic said...

@Detective Tobor: no, they snacked at the coffee house of a local Super 8.

;-)

@Cary: With Validus as part of the group, I think they may have snacked on the coffee house.

(Along the lines of, "I'm on the Brute Squad." "You are the Brute Squad!")

LOL! Good one!! Have the entire cookie factory. :-)

Only five appearances, here, by the Fatal 5? How appropriate!
