I featured a cover with these two teams meeting before, but when I saw the chance to have a reunion featuring all Gil Kane artwork, I had to give it a shot. I still love stories set in World War Two, that era fascinates me. I think the best superhero epics that take place in that time are the ones that still manage to give the non-powered soldiers their respect and due.

The Freedom Fighters and The Invaders in: "Bad Day To Be A Nazi!"

Very cool!
I like World War II stories, too. Whether it's The Invaders, JSA/All-Star Squadron or Freedom Fighters. It's a shame to see comic books moving away from WWII, but we're getting farther and farther away from it as recent history.
Great cover Ross! And it's a great continuation from the previous one where the two groups were on opposing sides. I'm guessing they fought each other in the previous issue due a misunderstanding and in this one have combined forces! Dang, I really want to read these stories you've imagined. You should get some fan fic writers to bring the stories the covers hint at to life. :)

Thank you Ross! A cover from one of my favorite issues of DC Comics Presents (that also introduced me the to the Freedom Fighters before they appeared again in All Star Squadron!). Can someone explain to me why DC Comics Presents was cancelled? Brave & The Bold had to make way for Batman & the Outsiders, but WHY was my second favorite team-up again title cancelled at all? Darn You, DC!
The DC Comics Presents cover you used here was my introduction to the Freedom Fighters and the existence of Earth-X. DC Comics Presents and Brave and the Bold were great series for a kid just starting reading comics in the late 70s and early 80s. Every month I was given another little slice of DC history. Likewise for Marvel Team-Up and Marvel Two-in-One on the Marvel side.
@Invisible Throne: After Crisis the three remaining Superman titles (Superman, Action and DCCP) kept going until the cover dates Sept. 1986. The John Byrne "Man of Steel" LS came out twice a month for Oct., Nov. and Dec. Then, with Jan. cover dates the three old titles were brought back, BUT the team-up feature from DCCP was relocated to Action Comics while Byrne did the book (#584-600). Byrne also did the new Superman title and the old Superman title became "Advs. of...", scripted by Marv Wolfman who had been writing Action until about a year before Crisis started. So, the new title had the old Superman feature, the "Advs." title had the old Action feature and Action title had the old DCCP feature for almost a year and a half. At the end of 1988 Byrne left for Dark Horse and Marvel and nobody else was interested in continuing the team-up stories, but I couldn't tell you why. I'd seek out those 17 Action issues.
"Bad Day To Be A Nazi"---'Nuff said...
I came across this while surfing for Invaders collectibles...thought it was an actual comic book! Love the cover! Thanks for creating and posting.
