Disney could make a two for one and have the Earth past thru a giant cloud. This cloud causes mutants and movie Inhumans. Anything could happen as a result of it.
(Ironically, it's the same kind of cloud that made so much green K. into red kryptonite in the DC universe. )
The X-Men shouldn't be working with the Outsiders. For the new X-Men, this looks like a job for The Greatest American Hero!
A third theory is that the mutants have been here all along, but just haven't been publicly noticed (at least, not to an extent that would affect any of the stories thus far). Personally, though, I'm more with the "reverse House of M" camp.
This is another cool cover, Ross, though I don't recognize the heroine in white (flipped upside-down next to the UPC box). The symbol on her chest makes me think it's Halo, but I don't recall that costume.

I don't think they have to "introduce" mutants. Right now MCU science can't detect the difference between Terrigen-changed, ie Inhuman, DNA and the X-Gene. Once they can, they'll find out that some of the folks they've been calling Inhumans, like Wanda, are actually Mutants.
I'm all for the Patrick Stewart-era X-men being introduced from a parallel-Earth via a reverse House of M.
What you might call "The Best of Both Worlds" approach. ;-)
I'd go with the parallel world option.... but with a twist. Make it so that the MCU Immortus was a future Sorcerer Supreme and, as such, wielder of the Time Gem (I prefer Infinity Gems to Infinity Stones). His world was a dystopian future due to his world's past being a combination of both the anti-mutant hysteria of the X-MEN films and the various alien invasions, HYDRA conspiracies, and other events of the MCU films.
In an attempt to restructure his reality, he used the Gem to reach back into the past and cleave Earth's history in two; being something of an anti-mutant bigot himself, he exiles the X-gene and the resultant mutant portion of human history to its own reality. In any either event, he's made two central realities where Earth may survive its various problems -- whether due to anti-mutant paranoia or pure and simple craziness of alien artifacts and genocidal A.I.'s springing up every few months -- and survive to become a better "present" for himself.
Unfortunately, screwing around in time done by the Avengers, the X-Men, and -- worst of all -- Deadpool ('natch) have caused the barrier between these two worlds to fracture, resulting in different people and environs to bleed over into one another temporarily. As if that's not bad enough, instead of the ideal future he'd hoped for, Immortus is suck in more or else the same dystopian future era, the only difference being now that -- due to the Time Gem having been destroyed by Thanos in the new timeline -- he never became a student of the mystic arts and instead became his evil(er) doppelganger, Kang the Conqueror!

With Marvel Films having already done so much tweaking with back stories, Immortus' first incarnation as "Pharoah Rama Tut" could easily be amalgamated with former Nova villain, the Sphinx. The latter's "Ka Stone" easily being re-workable as a synonym for the Soul Gem!
Interesting idea about the Ka Stone. I'm assuming that you too think that the films will inevitably "reveal" that the Infinity Gems reincorporated themselves in different forms and in new hiding places around the universe. Between Adam Warlock being in the next phase or two, plus Strange and/or Wong indicating that the Gems are necessary for the universe stability, that seems likely to some degree or another.
Incidentally, I wish to clarify that -- for real life reasons -- I want the parallel Earth thing to happen because I don't want the original crop of X-films (especially the original three or so) to just be dumped in the "doesn't matter anymore" bin, That action is my one problem with the MCU reboot of the Spider-Man movies (although the Spider-Verse would seem to indicate that's not necessarily total).
RE: Ross... love the cover. I miss Halo's original "paint factory explosion" costume though... Kitty Pryde would love it!
I wouldn't mind a revisit of the string of X-Men films being an alternate Earth -- or, rather, a set of three (the stuff up until Days of Future Past, the stuff since, and Logan). With the Multiverse cranking up, complete with speculation that the most recent Secret Wars is on the horizon, it would make both creative and logical sense. However, I still think the MCU itself would be best served with a full X-Men reboot.
As for the Infinity Stones/Gems/Rocks/Whatever, I think I've already mentioned here how I think they should be reconstituted. If I'm right, I should see at least a few hints in the Doctor Strange sequel.
