Scooby-Doo and Ghostbusters

It will be interesting to see if the new Ghostbusters movie in production will get audiences interested in the brand again, after the poor reception to the reboot of a couple of years back.  Casting Paul Rudd is a positive step, he's always enjoyable to watch.  Then again, I liked all of the leads in the Paul Feig-directed outing, and that was a big disappointment to me.  Hopefully, lessons were learned and a funnier and less derivative script will service Rudd and the young actors in this new film.

Thank you to Ivan Ronald Schablotski, a patron of this blog, for suggesting this team-up.  I'm kind of surprised it hasn't happened for real yet!

And at some point, one of the team will be watching Scooby-Doo on tv just as the gang unmasks the current monster, laughing as they do it.

Being a "now" movie means having all the past material they can use as well.

There's always the live action show The Ghost Busters from the 70s. Rather cheesy...

How aboput Filmation's "Ghostbusters" and the "Real Ghostbusters" (the ones shown)?

I once read a cartoon gag panel where Mulder and Scully of the X-Files were interrogating Shaggy, and asked "Let me get this straight. You say you know there was a ghost because your DOG told you he saw it?"

The real mystery is where's Fred and Velma's legs?

Elementary, my dear March Hare. Beneath the dashboard (the same as Shaggy, Scooby, and Daphne's legs)!

I agree with that last paragraph, Ross: Thank you Ivan for the fine idea, and it's a tiny bit surprising that, with the love of giving Scooby-Doo crossovers with just about everyone else, this one hasn't happened. Maybe once the new GB film is out, and if it turns out to be popular, WB will do something with the idea.

Still, the character I think best to work with Scooby in a new STF cover would be Detective Chimp.

And yes, I also agree that casting Paul Rudd is a step in the right direction. Still, one would think that a movie with the talents of George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Michael Gough, Uma Thurman, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Glover, et al, would be at least halfway decent, rather than the mess of Batman & Robin, so let's just see how it all develops.

There can never be enough Scooby-Doo crossovers for me. It makes me sad that the wonderful DC book Scooby-Doo Team-Up is ending with issue 50.
I want to see some crazy crossovers though, like Scooby-Doo & the Ninja Turtles or Scooby-Doo & Rick and Morty

Did they team up with just Boston Brand directly yet? How about the Frankinstein creature? Or the Shadow?

Your mission: apply a nice twist to the usual stories.
Scooby-Doo & gang meet the so called supernatural all the time.
Time for them to meet THE IMPROBABLES.

They'll NEVER be afraid of ghosts again!

@BG: I blame the box-office failure of B&R on the costume designer.

Kevlar nipples?! The guy must've been bribed by Marvel Comics.

Carycomic said...

@Anonymous: that's as valid a conspiracy theory as any. ;-)

Bob Greenwade said...

@Anon: The problems with that film go WAY beyond the costumes. I'm fully aware of the irony in saying this, but Arnold was really the only good thing about that film.

(Well, I can probably say nice things about the score and the sets, but that's about it.)

Superman was mentioned in it which makes it one of the earliest DC movies with any cross continuity in it.

Sometimes Scooby-Doo and the gang do guest shots like being on Supernatural, sometimes they do more than battle a fake ghost. Even animation has more than one place in this culture.

@Bob: The actors certainly weren't at fault. They did the best they could with the script they were given! But, sometimes, even the deepest talent pool of actors just can't compensate for a badly-written script.

Maybe Filmation's Ghostbuster could meet Beetleborgs; the names and character traits of the monsters in Flabber's(?) old mansion reminds me of at least some of the ghosts in Ghostbusters! LOL! XD!

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: I don't disagree, and in fact I don't entirely blame the actors. The script and direction were the primary problems with the final product.

@All: Who I think the Scooby Gang really needs to team up with -- here, or in an actual comic -- are the Winchester brothers (from Supernatural).

The "Scooby-Doo" franchise has a thing for crossovers. I sure would love to see it cross over with the "ThunderCats" franchise. :)

Or, failing that, Scooby Doo meets Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse!

Ross could call it "Everything's Up To Date in Empire City."

Carycomic said...

@Bob Greenwade: I'm afraid that already happened back in March, 2018. It was a season 13 episode of the show entitled "Scoobynatural!"

Better late than never dept: Scooby-Doo meets Jonny Quest?

Carycomic said...

Or, even better, Scooby Doo meets Bandit and Lockjaw!

That way, they could team up to rescue the 103 Dalmatians in...

"Cruella and Inhuman."
