Hawkman and Spitfire

I always liked the cloth mask that the Earth-2 Hawkman wore for a time.  In those days of the yearly JLA/JSA crossovers, it was nice to help this young reader discern the difference between the earth 1 and 2 versions!  Plus, it looked cool in a retro way.

Wow… yet another great cover. Very cool pairing.

That's what I thought, too, when I first saw it (during that JLA/JSA crossover featuring the Golden Age and Silver Age Robins)! But, now days, the overly-pc crowd would probably accuse him of misappropriating Mexican luchador culture.

Love the cover! The use of the Tom Lyle Hawkman cover of #5 of the 1991 JSA mini-series makes me want to go and dig it out and re-read it. My questions is this, is the spitfire Lyle, Thomas or another artist?

I always loved the cloth mask as the perfect evolution for an older hero. I mean, it's just so much more manageable. Like Velcro sneakers and elastic waist pants, you switch to a cloth mask because that helmet at 55 is a bear. lol
