It's time for another double-dose of Ditko. Who better to face The Scorpion in his STF debut than a similarly themed hero that was also designed by the legendary comics creator? It would have been cool to see him illustrate this entire issue!

Another great cover!!!
I'm happy to agree with @anon. It's really neat when you can match up characters drawn by the same artist as you do here. And when it's Ditko....!
I affirm the appraisal of my co-commentators. There isn't even a scintilla of uncertainty that this would've been a sensational scenario for sure.
You could have the Blue Beetle, Ant-Man and Wasp, The Fly an Fly Girl form a group: The Insect Trust. (Spidey could be an honorary member as Spiders aren't insects.
Ambush Bug tried to do just that: https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/search/label/Insects%20Incorporated%21
"Right now, I'm calling them 'Arthropods.' A nice safe word.
It covers the crabs and spiders, too."
---Dr. Roney; QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (Hammer Films, 1967).
Good point! I'd almost forgotten that one.
The Ted Kord Blue Beetle somewhat resembles a Marvel character who somehow wound up in the wrong universe (Charlton, then DC).
His personality and fighting style, and his technical prowess and (original) wealth make me think of what would happen if Daredevil and Iron Man were "Amalgamated", while his "arthropod" motif, of course, reminds one of Spider-Man, whom Ditko co-created.
I am surprised this is first appearance of the Scorpion.
I wonder how Kord and Gargan would react to Darcy Walker?
;-)
At this point, seeing the real Ted - Beetle is more than just fun! It's a real treat!!
Too bad you can't do a Ditko murder mystery dinner cover game! Ie: The Green Goblin has been killed...who did it(among the heroes?)??
Detecctive Chimp: "Elementary, my dear Tobor. It was Hit Monkey...with a hundred bullets!"
I thought Scorpion had appeared on an earlier cover. He should team up with the Barbra Minerva Cheetah version (who also had a preh. tail) & battle Bumblebee in her original outfit (which had a stinger on her backside) & Nightcrawler (who had a preh. tail). Team up title = "We're gonna knock you on your butts!"
Interesting thought. It would quite a tale.
Which, in turn, is why it might be re-titled "Thereby Hangs A Tail."
