The Legion of Super-Heroes and The New Warriors

Well, this certainly looks like it will be a crowded issue.  Let's hope that the LSH and their time traveling visitors can stop tripping over each other long enough to face of against whatever threat has brought them together!

that was a few hours work !
only Perez could do it Justice for that many characters…

@Simon: give me Mike Grell, anyday.

@Ross: whatever I was hoping for, in terms of this semi-centennial special, you surpassed them, sir. In fact, I'll go so far as to add that the only mutual enemy that could plausibly unite them in a real-world comic would be...Mordru and the Sphinx!

Nice! how about Spidey and The Grad vs. Webwitch? As an all-Migliore salute?

Totally unfamiliar with the New Warriors, but wow! Maybe they're up against The Fatal Five Hundred.

Wow, I would have scooped that off the rack in a second! Thanks, Ross!

LONG LIVE THE LEGION!!!!!

gents, I'm a big fan of Dave Cockram, designs especially.
But, unless the crowd was already waiting in the wings, Ross, you deserve O.T. no question. Well designed launch scene!
DC has a problem... they have a great property, LoSH. It hasn't been getting good reception, regardless of packaging. Is it a question of writing??

A team-up like this would have to involve battling an entire army, most likely either from Apokolips or led by Kang the Conqueror (or perhaps both), and likely would focus on the respective teams' leaders while everyone else gets bit roles or cameos.

Detective Tobor - in my opinion LSH peaked in the Bronze Age early/mid 1980s with Kieth Giffen, Paul Kuperberg, Dave Cockrum firing on all cylinders. The Great Darkness Saga (my intro to Darksied) an an epic capstone to that era that thrilled and terrified me. They outdid themselves and frankly going into the 1990s, have not seen such level of storytelling since from DC since.

WTF is Cosmic Boy wearing? Looks like a swimsuit.

Anonymous said...

It's more of a unitard that only slightly deviated from his original pink-and-black outfit in that only the white shoulder rings (with matching boots) are missing.

But, if one could see Dream Girl (platinum blonde; lower right corner) from the neck down, HER outfit would definitely qualify as resembling a one-piece swimsuit!

And quite fetchingly, too. ;-)

@Anon 6:52, Darkseid and DC did have some epic stories...Darkseid was definitely building steam for his future image.

And it has been a loooong time since you had Speedball and Bouncing Boy teamed up! I'd like to "bounce" the idea off you to have another team up. I hope that's not too much of an off-the-wall suggestion.

I'll let myself out...

Be sure to take a cookie with you, Reg. You've earned it...and Bob Greenwade has plenty more where that came from.

;-D

Bob Greenwade said...

@Anon@7:19: What he's wearing there is the worst costume design in Legion history. Edna Mode would have a field day (right after recovering from her brain aneurysm).

@Reg & Cary: Take two, Reg. "Bounce" is good enough, but "off-the-wall" is worth one plus whatever the first one lacks.

We'll have to agree to permanently disagree, Bob. The Grell-era costumes were the coolest of the entire Silver Age!*

*Which is how I classify all DC books from DETECTIVE COMICS #225 to CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #12.

In general, Cary, yes. I especially loved those shown for Colossal Boy, Phantom Girl, and Light Lass, with Wildfire, Lightning Lad, Sun Boy, Star Boy, Chameleon Boy, and Shadow Lass all deserving honors. Cosmic Boy's skin-exposing outfit, however, is one of the worst costume ideas I've ever seen that wasn't deliberately bad.

Well, maybe Ross will make it up to you by someday blessing us with a sequel wherein then-New Teen Titans-meet-the Squadron Supreme.

If for no other reason than to finally give Marv Wolfman some artist cred, here! His name seems to be strangely absent from the long-list of alphabetized search parameters to the left.

Bob Greenwade said...

It's probably because Marv's a writer, while the real-world people on the list are mainly artists.

That said, an NTT/Blade team-up wouldn't go far amiss.

Carycomic said...

Teaming up against Red Rain Batman? Or Andrew Bennett (of I...VAMPIRE fame)?

@Bob & Cary: split the difference and have Blade battle Red Rain Batman.
