The Herculoids on the Planet of the Apes

I'm not sure why The Herculoids home Planet was later renamed Quasar when the property was brought back for new adventures - the former name of Amzot was a more unique and cool choice, in my opinion.  A minor nitpick to be sure, I'll never complain much about extra Herculoids episodes!

Another great cover. One question - Might Igoo be considered an almost god-like figure by the apes? He could be the one to bridge this divide.

Maybe it wasn't renamed; maybe they moved. Didn't Galactus visit Amzot on this blog? That could be the reason!

It occurs to me that the Eleventh Doctor would really get a kick out of Tundro, especially if the big guy let him ride.

I also think it would be interesting to see Zok paired with Swoop (of the Dinobots), especially if there are any other pterodactyl types that we could add to make it a team.

Look Ethel, the neighbors have come as a welcome wagon.
No Fred, they are burning the welcome wagon!!

Maybe the planet was named for the stellar body they orbited. The Amzot Quasar!*

*DC conjectured, post-Future Quest, that the Herculoids original homeworld had been conquered by rebellious AI robots. Hence, the constant attempts by so many mechanical marauders to conquer their new homeworld.---Cary

Quoting from that old 1990 Dolph Lundgren sci-fi picture eh?

PS: I'd still love to see a cover where Negasonic Teenage Warhead battles the Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight, where the two characters' names take up more than half the front. (Maybe for April 1?)

As a kid I never caught the name of the planet until Space Stars so as far I knew Quasar was the right name. I still haven't seen it when I've been able to go back to the Herculoids' original show.

In yesterday’s comment about Gazoo and Pokémon, I was thinking about things like shellder-powered refrigerators, growlithe-powered ovens, and even Fred Flintstone riding a Rhys on in the quarry; also pet aerodactyls.

@ShadowWingTronix: it was mentioned as planet Amzot in the November 4, 1967, episode entitled "The Time Creatures".

I meant RHYDON!

Scooby-doo and the gang on Planet of the Apes. Wait till the gang pull off that face mask. Apes on horses? Who trains the horses and is their vet?
Can't wait till the apes take on the formless fearless wonders. They are going to get a whole new education on new 'animal' shapes and talents.

Maybe the reason the apes are up in arms is because they were previously visited by evil Herculoids from the morally inverse parallel world of Tozam!

You know; similar to the Crime Syndicate of America's home world of Earth 3?

No, they're from Marvel's POTA series.

This has always bugged me: I remember watching The Herculoids on TV in the '60s, and I remember the theme as having lyrics. I even remember a couple of lines from it. But I can't find any clips of it, or anyone else who remembers the theme having words. Maybe it was a commercial bumper, or an early version that was replaced.

@Bob Buethe The closest I can figure is when they were part of the syndicated anthology Hanna-Barbera's World Of Super Adventure. It was narration rather than lyrics. Even the Toonami airings didn't have lyrics in their intro.

I was afraid Ross might be getting sick of my occasional "Testing 1-2-3" messages. Which would be understandable given his responsibilities as owner-operator of this website!

That would be the late great Mike Road (1918-2013).

But Bob, i prefer this one.

@Carycomic: That would've made Mike Road around age forty-six at the time of the JQ series in 1964. Fourteen years older than Race Bannon's stated age in the episode "Double Danger"!
