There's nothing like a good rescue mission tale, especially if it is illustrated by the likes of Dick Ayers or Joe Kubert. Those Silver and Bronze Age war comics really did attract some of the best artists.
The Unknown Soldier has met Nick Fury before on the blog - they last appeared together in STF #2578, and first crossed paths in STF #1686...

And for the twist, Nick took the Unknown Soldier's place so that U.S. could lead the team as Nick. The bad guys had no idea how big a prize they had.
Is that really the Unknown Soldier? Maybe under those bandages it's really Mr. Dithers!
Believe it or not, Strange Tales Vol. 1/#153 introduced a Hydra invention called the "Epider-mask Machine" back in 1967. A device that would've been a wet dream for the original Impossible Missions Force (telecast by Paramount via CBS) at that same time! But, one has to wonder if that device was just a post-WWII upgrade of whatever cosmetological technique the Unknown Soldier employed in his own mastery of disguise.
@Anyone: Has DC ever drawn a connection between the Unknown Soldier and the Human Target?
I think that, in the STF-verse, Christopher Chance would more likely be a grandson of George Chance (aka "The Green Ghost"). With the Unknown Soldier being more of a mentor sought out by other would-be masters of disguise. Like, say, a then-20-something Bruce Wayne!
It took me a moment to realize that this was a cross-company cover. It fits in so well. I could see this as a Sgt. Rock / Unknown Soldier story in one of DC's war comics.
Can you imagine the Law's Legionnaires bandaged up like mummies and aiding Walt Disney's first fairy-tale princess? I can see it, now.
"Super Team Family Presents: SNOW WHITE & THE 7 UNKNOWN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY!"
I would rather imagine a Round Three between Ultron and the Metal Men. ;-)
@Anon@9:38: You mean, as a sequel to the first suggestion I ever saw done on this blog?
@Bob Greenwade: precisely! failing that, I'd settle for a second reunion between the Dugan Brothers, Pat and Dum-dum. Their first being two years ago, way back in STF #3241!
Natural team up!
Maybe you need a team of face changes.
