Groo and Asterix

I enjoy watching the Cartoonists Kayfabe Youtube channel where they examine comic art.  From time to time they will do Zoom interviews, and so far my favorite has been one they did with Sergio Aragones.  He tells a very inspiring story on how he crafted and shaped his career, it's a fascinating discussion and well worth seeking out.

This cover comes about as the result of a suggestion by Mike Shirley, a Patron of this Blog.  Thanks for the idea and the support, Mike!

Speaking of "Mad Men" it is worth noting the passing of Al Jaffe at 102, no less.

Mr. Shirley tends to have clever ideas. Nice going, Mike!

My all time favourite characters together at last,
next time Getafix vs Sage & his dog Mulch…
i’m wondering where Obelix & Dogmatix have gotten too,
it’s going to almost impossible to top this one….
unless Hagar the Horrible & Helga gets in on the Act.
now off to listen to Cacafonix’ latest Album…

Groo has yet to meet Red Sonja i think. Not really a sword & sorcery fan. Too much going on in the backgrounds. All those rulers.
Then again, Groo and Godzilla?

How about a spoof of old-fashioned sword-and-sandal muscle epics? Like, say, GROO VS. HERCULES!* With the latter version being either DC, Marvel, or Disney (a la STF #3492).

*For historical authenticity, Ross could Italianize it as "Groo Contro Maciste."

I'd buy that for sixty cents on the dollar. :-)

I happen to think that Groo and Joxer would make an interesting duo, but I don't think Ross could find an image of the latter to go with the former.

Personally I think a matchup between Groo and Obelix would be even more fitting. Those two have a lot more in common; including their relative levels of intelligence and, iirc, their fondness for food. Asterix is way too smart for Groo and would definitely outsmart even if he somehow couldn't overpower him, whereas Obelix would probably enjoy a good fight and enjoy a good meal of roast boar afterward.

As Akterja might say: "There's nothing barbarians loved to pig-out on more than a platter of roast boar."

P.S.---Poetry not intended.
