Metal Men and ROM in: "Building a Better Spaceknight!"
The Metal Men should have had action figures all their own, just like ROM did. Well, maybe at least Stretch-Armstrong type toys to go along with each member of the team. I know I would have loved to see such an offering on the toy shelves when I was a kid - but I'm guessing there weren't enough fans of the wacky robots to make it a profitable venture.
The Metal Men first encountered ROM in STF #2340...

Great crossover, even if you did miss out on having Tin declare the obvious (and timely) title "Bbbbuild Bback Better"
(Had the wrong robot in my original comment.)
Aye, that is one beautiful cover. A model kit, or group of kits (ie U.N.C.L.E.) would have been fun as well. If they could do Cyborg, they could do them too.
Matel did make the Metal Men. The last two Tina and Tina had the fewest extras.
This team-up is more appropriate than most anyone could realize. In "The Great Superhero Contest" (Action Comics v. 1/#451; 1975), Superman had a variant of the mistaken-identity slugfest--in this case, a misunderstood-intention slugfest--with an expatriate alien prince named Ben Aldain. From the planet Galador!
One wonders if, shortly following his coronation, he transposed the whole planet to the mainstream Marvel Universe? You know; to avoid DC's multiversal (and retrospectively ill-advised) Crisis On Infinite Earths!
The Metal Men are, of course, the greatest group of shape-shifting robots in all of comics; I don't think Marvel has even one comparable character. Hopefully once WB Pictures and DC Entertainment get their respective heads out of [self-censored], they can make a full-length live-action/mocap/CGI movie with the team. Barry Sonnenfeld apparently has been working on one since 2012, and with any luck, by the time it's ready the above condition will be met. I think Jaden Smith will probably be old enough to play Doc Magnus by then.
The only ones that I ever saw on the shelves were Gold & Iron.
The Brave and the Bold cartoon toyline had some of them I'm pretty sure. I think they came with a Starro starfish, too.
There was a complete set of Metal Men action figures. I actually have the whole set, and they're pretty darn true to the characters, although Tin is not articulated and doesn't have any accessories.

metal men set now on ebay
but they couldn't post here.
I'm aware of some of the newer figures for adult collectors - I just wish there was something in the late 70's, early 80's when I was a kid.
Btw: how about Metal Men vs. the Elements of Doom?
