Nightcrawler and Storm Join The Legion of Super-Heroes

A big part of the appeal of both the LSH and X-Men for me was the wide array of cool costumes their respective rosters were given.  Dave Cockrum was the artist responsible for many of the best outfits on both teams. Indeed,  Storm and Nightcrawlers' looks were adapted from unused Legionnaire designs of his, a bit of trivia that inspired me to make this cover.

Love this! A great idea, well executed.

I remember reading that Storm and Nightcrawler originated as possible legion candidates. I love the cover and the comment is just hilarious! Bravo

Then, one could say that Dave Cockrum gives (gave?) new meaning to the initials, "DC."

It was not just the costumes which were great, it was the clean art which so fit my idea of future world. Compare that to Future State: Legion of Super-Heroes which looks like Keith Giffen's art on a bad day.

Nice.

Nightcrawler would have given the Legion a teleporter long before Gates.

Like Unknown, I love the comment -- not only that, but it's coming from Princess Projectra, and while it's not dead-on in-character (for the time period) it does seem very fitting.

Someone on here once told me what those shoulder extensions are called that I see on Nightcrawler's and Colossal Boy's costumes, but I don't recall the term. In any event, a cover featuring just those two would be fun, just for their personalities and power sets... and especially if the aforementioned term for that fashion feature can be turned into a pun.

I always wanted to see Kurt with the Legion. Fantastic. Cockrum was second to none for costume design.

Well, perez ain't too shabby

@my namesake: Not where Zatanna's "heroic" costume (with the manta wings and thigh-high boots) were concerned.

Her costume preceded Perez on JLA

@Both Anonymi: I've read where Tony Isabella gets blamed for that look.

I think it's be interesting to see Zatanna in the outfit mentioned by @Anon@10:16, teamed up with Storm in this one (or one similar). They're of about the same level of power, and the similarity in those two costumes would make for an interesting visual.

I'm sure Ross can shoulder that burden.

Their biggest challenge was paying the bill from the dry cleaners;)

@Anonymous: nope! George Perez definitely bears ultimate responsibility for the sartorial disaster that was her third costume. It's the sleeveless black unitard with the red cape (her 2nd costume) that he'w totally innocent of designing.

@Anon727: Amen, brother!

Another connection: the Shi’ar Imperial Guard are expys of the Legion of Superheroes.

Don't you mean "analogues?"

I get the costume reference, as early versions of Storm and Nightcrawler were designed with the Legion in mind. Well played!
