I remember reading one of the paperback reprints of his adventures--cover by Ron Goulart--back in the early Seventies. Something about relict Norsemen from Greenland. And, in the opening chapter alone, William Harper Littlejohn wound up encased in ice...after being doused with buckets of water in the open Arctic air.
Talk about being treated coldly!
At the same age, I was aware of his Pulp roots, but was surprised to learn that he was among the inspirations for Superman, in the same way that The Shadow was among the inspirations for Batman. I'd been about to suggest a meeting between these two Pulp inspirations, in fact, but found that they'd already met in #2032 -- though a re-meeting acknowledging their respective literary paths in a "World's Finest"-inspired cover would be fun.
Given the choice, though, I'd rather have the admittedly bizarre pairing of The Shadow with She-Ra. (Even that wouldn't be as bizarre as, say, Judge Dredd and the Flintstones!)

At first glance, with that hairline, I thought it was DC’s Amazo!
My first run in with him was either in those same Marvel comics you mentioned or in the Ron Ely (my generations Tarzan) TV movie. But, I do know that while cool, I didn't appreciate him until as an adult and learning of his pulps. Looking back though, I really wish they'd had him cross over with my favorite Marvel comic at the time, the Invaders. Not sure if as a slightly older Doc, time traveling Invaders or maybe just filled with cameos of a still burgeoning Marvel Universe. He'd be great with an in-his-prime Dominic Fortune, smart-mouthed teen from Yancey Street and even helping out a not yet finished Prof. Horton.
Oh, and somewhere out there is a serialized radio show with him thats actually pretty charming

I can just picture Amazo being Exhibit A (no pun intended) in a plagiarism suit brought by Professor Ivo against one of the former flunkies of MODOK who helped develop the Super Adaptoid for A.I.M. With Jen Walters representing the defendant!
