Robin (The Ex-Boy Wonder) and Daredevil

I love getting a chance to feature the funky costume that the Earth-Two Robin wore in Justice League of America #55 and a few other appearances.  It has been often maligned as one of comics' ugliest outfits, but I thought it was cool the first time I saw it and I still do today. I especially like the logo, which should be obvious from the avatar that I use on this blog!

Daredevil has a history with various robins in the pages of STF - He fought alongside former Robin-turned Nightwing in STF #431 and again in STF #1300... He has has also crossed paths with Jason Todd and battled side by side with Tim Drake...

I think that Earth-2 Robin's outfit was introduced during the Batman craze of the '60's, when the popularity of the T.V. show led D.C. to put Batman front and center on all the covers of the Justice League. I think this Batman-style outfit was an attempt to sell comics.
D.C. was tying to cash in. You know, it seems like half the covers from D.C. in the mid to late '60's either had Batman on 'em or a gorilla of some kind, or a gorilla dressed as Batman. Or Batman having turned into a gorilla. I forget.

And so 'DD' also stands for "Dent, doubled"? I like it!

^_^

Now, if only DC would finally bring back the old Earth-2...

Hmmm... Lawyer? Check. Caustic substance in face? Check. Bad fashion sense? Well... if the Earth-2 DD started out in the same costume as the Earth-M version, then check.

Not a bad analogy you came up with there.

Thanks, I originally considered this one of my more out there conecpts, but the more I thought about it, the more I though there was cool story potential.

For those interested Robin the Ex- Boy Wonder was created writer Gardner Fox, penciled by Mike Sekowsky and inked by Sid Greeene and first appeared (in this costume) in Justice League of America #55 dtd August 1967. He was the silver-age replacement for a retired golden-age Batman in the Justice Society.

I first learned of Earth-2 when I read the JLA/JSA team-up that occurred the summer before their first hundredth issue ("The Unknown Soldier of Victory" arc). The former involved Solomon Grundy; a lost alien toddler and his symbiotic pet (a pink aardvark/rabbit hybrid-looking thing); the Earth-1 Boy Wonder and his grown-up counterpart; plus the five Justice Leaguers made famous by the nearly-contemporary Filmation cartoons _and_ their counterparts!

But, the most memorable thing of all? Robin's adoption (however briefly) of a red outfit with full head-mask; long sleeves; gold leggings with black boots; and a cape that could be temporarily split into glider wings!! The designer of this costume? A friend of Earth-2 Grayson named...Neal Adams.

@ my namesake:

I remember that two-parter, as well! It was JLA v.1/#'s 91-92 (summer 1971).

Although, actually...
Wasn't the Earth-2 version of Two-face called Harvey Kent?

@Simreeve: good point! But, to my mind, that only _enhances_ the legitimacy of Harvey being the DD of Earth STF-2
