Darth Vader Vs. Machine Man

It's funny how your perspective changes when watching a movie that you have seen over and over for years.  When I was a kid viewing Star Wars, I liked the buildup scenes on Tatooine - But like Luke, I couldn't wait for the characters to get off planet and into the rebellion against The Empire.  I just watched the movie again recently, and my thoughts were all about just how does moisture farming work anyway?  I tried to look around to find clues on Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru's property.  Maybe the occupation will be explored further on Obi-Wan Kenobi when it hits Disney+.

"Alas poor, Aaron. I knew him..."

Vader as Hamlet. Brilliant!

Just saw The Good Doctor from last Monday night. Two of the hospital leads were talking about Spider-Man movies thru the second half of the episode. Something these two hand't done before. Cross pollination of Disney properties during the release of the new Spidy movie is no coincidence. Far from it, Ross. So your cover hits Home.

Great cover! But what's going on? It looks to me as if Vader is contemplating a different look. Maybe the title should have been "New Heads For Old..."

@Ross: Moisture farmers collected ambient water vapor from Tattooine's atmosphere and condensed it into liquid form using binary devices called "vaporators." The water was then sold to nearby towns and settlements for drinking, sanitation, hydroponic gardening and so on.

@Big Jeff Oh: Good one! :-D

Like Jeff, my first thought on seeing this was the famous scene in Hamlet, though it was probably affected by the fact that I was in a production of that play, in the role of Osric. ("Sir, here is newly come to court, Obi-Wan....")

As it happens, I'm currently in SeaTac, WA for Norwescon, a science-fiction convention that includes cosplay. The costume I have planned for Saturday is Jedi Master Elvis -- that's right, Elvis Presley as a Jedi Knight. So, my second thought on seeing this cover was how this was two days and one character away from really blowing my mind. In fact, a cover with Elvis vs. a pre-armor Anakin Skywalker, titled "Sith Lord in Disguise!," would have truly hit the nail right on the head.

My third thought, with those more-or-less random things out of the way, was imagining James Earl Jones' voice, in a low, menacing tone, telling MM's still-conscious head, "This is what we do to Rebel spies." (In response to which MM pulls some huge surprise, like reassembling himself from his scattered parts.)

Prop Master This doesn't look anything at all like Data's head! Fix it or lose yours.

First, I just want to say I really like this cover. It has intrigue. Second, do you think Disney would make a 'Machine Man' movie?

I'm not holding my breath but it would be great to see. Maybe a Disney+ show.

The limited series took place in 2020 and we've already missed that window of opportunity, so I'm not holding my breath either.

@Bob Greenwade: what did Jedi Master Elvis say to his protocol droid?

"10-Q! 10-Q, very much."

Carycomic said...

@Anonymous: you did _not_ just say that.

@Ross: how about He-Man vs. Hellboy? Or, better yet, Super-Gorilla Grodd in Titano's body taking on Toho's favorite son? That way, you could entitle it...GODZILLA VS. GRODDZILLA!

"Strange... I could feel no presence from this droid. And yet the Force is still incredibly strong within him!"

It's only a flesh wound!

Carycomic said...

@Ken Roskos: Vader is most likely picking up traces of Monolithic energy. Which raises the question...

@Ross: how about a STAR WARS/2001:ASO crossover?

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary (re: Anon): I'm afraid he did.

My own take is Master Elvis' message to Anakin Skywalker: "Well, you look like a Jedi, walk like a Jedi, talk like a Jedi... but I've grown wise. You're just a Sith Lord in disguise!"

A Sith Lord in digsuise...with diamonds?
