The Light Brigade in: "Illuminating Evil!"

I'm hoping that we get a full trailer soon for WandaVision.  Despite delays, the series is still set to debut on Disney+ before the end of the year.  I mostly want to see how Monica Rambeau looks, and if they manage to give her a costume close to her classic appearance from the comics.

This is the Third Appearance of The Light Brigade - they previously battled Blackheart in STF #2690, and first appeared in STF #2170...

So much fun. Thanks, Ross.

All this time and you still haven't shown their junior partners, The DayGlow Kids!?

While I understand the rationale for not doing it on this cover, you have yet to show the heroic Dr. Light in her original costume.

Don't worry, Bigby. I'm sure he doesn't take such requests, lightly.

Would Halo of the Outsiders count here? Either way, I want to see them share a cover with Batman in the shadows. ;)
Is their backups The Legion of Substitute Nite-lites?
Can't wait to see this year's annual team up between the Light Brigade and the Sound Masters. I hear there may even be a cameo by the Silent Partners.
No wonder Ross Rules!

Thought you had the Light Brigade working with the Dark Matter group this summer? Isn't this where you were going to introduce their Earth 2 counterparts the Grey Tones? Busy year Ross.

I could see this team taking on Eclipso. Story title: "Don't Blink".

BTW, a celebrity birthday milestone happened today; Clint Eastwood just turned 90!; this news is certainly less morbid to indulge in than his OBITUARY!

Why would any hero want to take on the name and costume of a villain? Dr Light is his actual name. Are we going to see a new heroic character adopt the name of Hector Hammond or Lex Luthor?

I first saw the original JLA version of this image in a house ad in an issue of Detective when it and Superboy were all my folks were buying for me. It helped me decide that team books were the way go. Thank you, Ross.

@Anon: I doubt the career of Arthur Light ever made a splash in Japan. Also, DC had the trademark on the name and needed to use it and Arthur was still living down being beaten by Atom and those meddling kids.

As much as I love the costume for Photon that you use here (both for the underarm wings, and the way it highlights her hair), I think we'll probably end up with something closer to the one you used when she teamed up with the Flash in #1545 and Jesse Quick in #2617.

@Anon@10:22: That's a good question. Her actual name would probably be something like Hikari Hakase (as opposed to Raito Hakase for the original, "Light" being his actual name), but why take on a similar costume? I don't recall the relevant events in Crisis on Infinite Earths (the costume may have been given by the Monitor).

I wonder if the Light Brigade's next appearance might be to induct its two newest members; Halo and Dazzler. I think they'd be brilliant additions (if a bit crowded...)

Dr. Who is gonna sue!

Wouldn't this technically make them Illuminati?

The return of a team is always welcome. I'm not quite up to (light) speed on Doctor Light now being a hero... But if I understand things correctly, the Doc has come back from the Dark Side...?

DJ, the male Doc was a criminal. The female Dr is a hero. Both use the same name for historic reasons.

Since my suggestions go to Ross's 'Not-To-Do-Just-Because-You-Ask' list, let me spoil some more:

- Odin vs. Highfather (Father's Day is coming);

- Ghost Rider vs. Mister Bones (Infinity Inc., pre-Flashpoint);

- Red Skull, Black Mask, Atomic Skull, Taskmaster, Skeletor and the Terminator. The Skull Klan on Skull Island;

- Eternals vs. New Gods;

- Imperial Guard vs. Legion of Super-Heroes ... If you don't know why, read this and see here (secure links!).

Was this the group party under the reservation :Not Just Another Pretty Face? :)

Paganini: I think you'll stand a better chance now, since you only included three hyperlinks in your post and all of them were to outside pages. And, really, I like your Skull Klan and Eternals vs. New Gods ideas.

On the other hand, this cover gives me the impression that the Klutz Commandos aren't going to happen, probably for lack of workable images. (Really, Ross, I've been trying to be good. Honest. I've avoided bringing them up too much, and have only mentioned them in the past two months when something specific seemed appropriate... and I'll continue to do the same....)

Actually, Anon, there WAS a hero-Lex Luthor. A 30th descendant of the original villain who made his sole appearance in the (in)famous Legion of Super-Heroes adult story.

Across Crossovers said...

@Skin Cream For All <-- Your name works for that team too. lol

@Bob Greenwade Thank You.
*Klutz Commandos: "Led by Captain Klutz, with any combination of the Tick, Awkwardman, Inspector Gadget, Hong Kong Phooey, Joxer the Mighty, Frog-Man, and maybe even Speed Bump!", right?

Bob Greenwade said...

@Paganini: That's the batch, more or less -- I think I've added one or two from time to time (like Comet Guy, a hero who appeared in two episodes of Darkwing Duck).

Carycomic said...

Wouldn't he be more appropriate teamed up with Comet the Superhorse?

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: In a separate instance, perhaps, though Captain Comet might be even better.

Just a note about the female Dr. Light's black and white costume: in one of the JLA issues written by the late Dwayne McDuffie, one of the Milestone heroes (Hardware or Icon) revised her costume to include solar-power absorbing cells painted black in order to increase her powers. The yellow would reflect that same solar energy back away from her.

@Emsley Wyatt: don't forget the high-tech hero from pre-Crisis Earth-3.

@Comment Delete Ed: I think Ross was saving the Gray Tones for #3600.
