Hong Kong Phooey and Kung-Fu Panda

I enjoyed the Kung-Fu Panda movies. They were funny, had great character designs and had genuinely exciting battle sequences. I wouldn't even mind a fourth outing.

Thank you to Marc Tyler Nobleman, comics historian and Patron of this blog, for suggesting this animated team up.

Can't wait to see how he teaches Phooey the change of id in the file cabinet trick.

I agree, Ross. Especially, the grateful acknowledgement! Truly, one could not find a more noble man than Marc Tyler.

Let me check my Hong Kong book of Kung-Fu.

Spot was the real Master.

Very cool cover! Yes, Marc -- thank you for this!

It could only have been more perfect with the inclusion of Karate Kat (a character who was sufficiently obscure even at his height that I'd be surprised if two people were to respond saying that the watched that cartoon.)

I recall a few years ago seeing some test footage for a Hong Kong Phooey movie, with both HKP and Spot in CGI, and the former voiced by Eddie Murphy. I'm guessing the execs saw the handwriting on the wall ("TRAIN HITS HERE") and canceled it. Still, I wouldn't mind a revival of the character with someone more suitable to the tone of the original, such as Will Smith.

How about Hong-Kong Phooey, Larryboy, and Captain Caveman?; their alter-egos Penrod Pooch, Larry, and Chester (in the world of the Flintstones) all have custodial, (or at least low-level white-collar environment) jobs.

This is obviously before Po became the sifu of Kung Fu Skunk.

The one voiced by Jules DeJongh for Kids' WB.

Love this one!
Another Kung Fu Panda crossover I’d love to see is With the Ninja Turtles. When both shows were on Nickelodeon I’d watch and imagine a clash of Japanese and Chinese cultures with butt-kicking talking animals

another great cover confab by the always entertaining Ross...
as an idea for a team up Kung Fu Panda and Hong Kong Phooey would be the old Terrytoons cartoon character Hashimoto-San, honorable Japanese house mouse.....
...and an after thought, is Hong Kong's pet cat Spot any relation to Star Trek the Next Generation Data's pet cat, also named Spot????
....inquiring minds want to know......

Maybe both of these guys (and jack-el's Hashimoto-San, and maybe even Usagi Yojimbo) could get some lessons from Master Splinter.

@Carycomic: I'm sorry, was that a Skunk Fu reference?? :)

Yes. Good memory!

Which gives me an idea! Skunk Fu vs. that old Dick Tracy villain...B.O. Plenty.
