I'd say that between the two artists featured on this cover, a generation of creators was inspired and created. Jack Kirby was the master of huge concepts, the use of exaggeration to depict power and action, and a brilliant designer of machinery and devices. Joe Kubert excelled at landscapes, the physical form and pacing - and created a school where he could share his vast knowledge. I can'y imagine what comics would look like these days had these two legends not been a part of the scene.
Herc previously met Hawkman in STF #849... and they also shared a Golden Age adventure in STF #1795...

With all due respect to Jack, I'll take a Hawkman by Joe ANYTIME. Seeing the number of artists that followed working on Katar, starting with the best artist on the character can definitely leave one spoiled.
Ross, your construction of this cover shows so much talent as well as an art director.
Kubert and Kirby - yes!!! The Greats.
Like the team up. They have something in common too. Both flat broke. They lost their shirts...
How absolutely rad!
@Davejonz, what happened? Never heard any of that. Anyone else know?
Losing one's shirt is a gambling metaphor. Davejonz was making a pun re: their trademark bare chests.
An Avengers comic with Hercules prominent on it (Avengers #39, first series) was my first new comic I bought with my own money. I tended to buy more DC comics after that but Avengers were always comic I liked.
Personally I think Bob Layton did the Prince of Power the best.
Just the way the Lion of Olympus Likes it with plenty of witnesses. Will Olympus be able to withstand Hercules' Ego? Stay Tuned to Find Out.
