This cover features two artists that rank high among my favorites, and who were both gone far too soon. Mike Wieringo and Don Newton each had very distinctive and instantly recognizable styles, and it was always a treat to see which projects and characters they were working on next. Both were also at the height of their careers during their untimely passing. We were fortunate to have enjoyed a wealth of their talents, and I can only imagine the further contributions to comic art they would have made if they were still with us.

Lovely cover. In addition to the character combination and sheer story potential there's great colour contrast too - the blue and red of the 2 superheroes, the yellow robots, the outer space background. Great work.
Don Newton's career kind of paralleled Jim Aparo's. Both artist's worked on The Phantom at Charlton. They both worked on Aquaman at DC. But both artists were probably best known for their work on Batman for DC. In my opinion, Don Newton was one of the great Bat-artists and doesn't usually get the recognition he deserves. Thanks for recognizing him today, Ross.
A fitting tribute, today of all days.
Happy Memorial Day, Ross. :-)
hey Happy Memorial Day to you, Ross, and thank you for another great cover creation and story idea.....
i, also am a great fan of Don Newton....
especially his painted covers for The Phantom, which are true artistic masterpieces.....
as always thanks for all your artistic daily masterpieces....
hey Ross, i just had cover idea pop into my mixed-up mind....
Iron Man 2020 vs Superman 2020, because you know it's ummm 2020....
@jack-el: How about Batman beyond (set around 2040) and Phantom 2040.
Why not? They could celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Sealab 2020.
