Some more Jack Kirby today, this time a double dose. The thug here reminds me of another thing that Kirby excelled at - depicting ugly mugs for villains and creatures. No wonder he did such a memorable job on characters like The Thing, Darkseid, The Demon and The Hulk.

Fighting American and Captain America

I remember reading at the "International Catalogue of Superheroes" website that Fighting American had been developed as a spoof of how over-seriously the American public were taking the "Red Scare" of the McCarthyist Fifties.
Which, of course, led to eventual cessation of the comic discourtesy of Worthless Wertham's proponents!
Somehow it would seem appropriate if these two were joined by Uncle Sam (and other US-themed heroes) for July 4th. They could even be joined by the Shield, Liberator, and others.
(My personal preference, though, would be the revelation that Captain America and Wonder Woman are the parents of American Maid!)
Gosh, I remember "The Shield" and the rest of his Mighty Crusader cohorts.
First off, just great to see the GREAT Jack Kirby. Even as a kid, when I really didn't understand much about art (and for my money comic art should rank with with classic 'art') I identified the styles of the artists who gave me a buzz and those who just didn't. Kirby gave me the buzziest of buzzes! I still possess - in otherwise boring black and white British edition! - a copy of Race To The Moon, which has a Kirby story that blew my childhood mind away - a story Kirby must have (much later) based his Kamandi series on.
This cover. I like the team up - and the way the 2 heroes mirror each other.
@Bob. What you said! Right on.
Considering that Titan Comics' version of Fighting American, which is the most RECENT one (as late as 2017!), is currently stranded in (his) future, maybe he could team up with Samurai Jack, another character who was ALSO stranded forward (and how!) in time.
PRESENTING, in this corner, The Fighting Captain of America!! And in the other corner is Sharon Lynda Carter, that Wondrous Agent Shielding America against those Jokers of Hydra .
Ha! Good one. ;-)
@Horsefeathers: I'm still hoping for the Justice League of Capt. America vs. the Legion of Dr. Doom. ;-)
Hmm...Lex, Victor, Brainiac and Kang playing nice together for multiple prizes -
mostly power and magic for wider control. That's a Legion of Power.
That's it! A battle of legions!!
The Legion of Dr. Doom vs. the Legion of Brother Power The Geek!!!
Horsefeathers? You're a genius. :-)
(Thug) "Momma didn't love me - it's society's fault! UHGH!"
