The Avengers Vs. The Secret Society of Super-Villains

The latest news on the Justice League film is that the script has been scrapped and the producers are going back to the drawing board.  This is not a bad thing to me, as it seemed that the film was being rushed into production to capitalize on the success of The Avengers.  The script had the JLA facing off against Darkseid, which sounded a little too close to the alien invasion and plot from Marvel's film, not to mention the visual similarities to Thanos.  The JLA needs to stake out its own territory, so what could be cooler than an all out JLA vs. The Secret Society movie?  Yeah it would be a lot of characters, but the writers on the Justice League animated series did it more than once and made it work. It might even be cool to see an adaptation of Justice, the great mini-series by Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and Doug Braithwaite. It would also remind older viewers of the Challenge of the Super-Friends cartoons from their youth, which would add in a nostalgia factor.  I would still prefer solo films for Flash and Wonder Woman at least before a JLA movie, but if they just want to dive right in, it might be fun to see them go crazy with a big concept like a battle with the Society.

Excellent idea and execution. And, it fits right in with many folks' opinion of Tony Stark post-Civil War.

For kicking off the Justice League in a film, I'd be in favor of using Starro -- though I think it might be even cooler to use Felix Faust and the Demons Three.

What you say is just as good as what you draw, Rob.

The new JLA movie would have been a knee-jerk reaction. And from recent experience, knee-jerks turn out to be right jerks.

I really like this one.

Did that SSSV art come from a Treasury edition, or a pin-up from an annual? Looks familiar, but I can't place it....

It's from a DC calendar.

This is off-topic Ross, but the Catwoman on this cover is my favorite. This was her best costume design, in my opinion, and it would be great if you could have THIS version in a future team-up!!

You will definitely see that costume in an upcoming cover... I also used it in a Batman/Catwoman cover during the lost B&B run.

Nicely done - this is a both a great story idea and a good pairing of images, too.

Wow Ross .... just wow! I hope the powers that be do use the secret society (or better yet the legion of doom) as the villain(s) for the JLA movie.

Personally, I think if they're going to do a JLA film it should be an adaptation of The New Frontier, complete with period setting.

There's already an animated feature-length film adaptation of "New Frontier". It's been running on one of the Encore spin-off cable channels alongside theatrical films. Since an actual theatrical film would eventually find its way there, too, a movie studio may see that as meaning that they wouldn't have a secondary or tertiary market for a similar live action film, that its spot has already been filled. And yeah, the period setting did make the animated film work.
