M. Night Shyamalan has taken some flack for his more recent output, but I still admire his work on the first few films that he directed. I remember seeing Unbreakable and the first thing that appeared on the screen was some text describing comic book collecting... I knew then that I was going to like the movie! I liked the slow, deliberate pace of the film and the real world angle it gave to the superhero genre. I don't think the film was a huge commercial success (at least in relation to The Sixth Sense) and that's too bad. Shyalaman has stated that he saw the story of David Dunn as a trilogy, and I would have loved to have seen another installment.

I especially love the ending with the BIG REVEAL, where Bruce Willis' David Dunn leaves Samuel L. Jackson's character just ranting on and on...
The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable were awesome because the shocking twist reveal was so cool at the end. Some of his more recent films have been weaker - I think - because of the reveal. Like "Signs" - good movie, but - WATER? - seriously?
IDW of Boom! did Die Hard: Year One, couldn't somebody pick up the license for Unbreakable? Hello - Mark Waid?
Okay, now THAT is a thing of beauty. David is very much the light archetype like Superman, though his appearance echoes the dark Batman archetype. Great pairing. Unbreakable is my favorite superhero movie, bar none.
As for the ending, I was mad at myself because it was so obvious and I didn't see it coming!

Yeah, I was enjoying the flick so much I didn't guess the ending either. Condorman! That brings back memories... one of the first VHS tapes I ever rented... we watched that over and over.
Damn, seven years later and I still can't stop coming back to look at this. Question though, if you could, do you think it would be possible to make some kind of continuation of this? I mean, Split and Glass came out as sequels. So. Maybe some kind of team up with the Beast.
I hope you guys are happy as finally... We saw Split and then Glass. One of my favourite Trilogy after the Dark Knight by Nolan.
