Batman and Starman

I took the Starman image here from his Jim Starlin-illustrated issue of DC Comics Presents, which was where I first encountered him. I really loved the look and personality of the Prince Gavyn Starman and was disappointed that beyond a handful of appearances in Adventure Comics that he did not star in many more stories. For this reason, I was glad when James Robinson decided to use him in his excellent Starman series. In the Stars, My Destination arc, Robinson included all of the characters that have gone by the Starman name and ingeniously was able to combine the back stories of Prince Gavyn and Will Payton. Prince Gavyn has since appeared in some of DC cosmic related series and I hope continues to do so.

The original (Batman and Superboy) is one of my all-time favorite B&B stories. This would look to be pretty cool too. I liked this version of Starman and the issue of DCCP was my introduction to the character as well.

Those pages are just gorgeous. Great series and a great artist.

I've never read that Robinson Starman story. If it's in a trade, then I think I'll pick it up. I thought the Prince Gavyn design was awesome.

I think they have most of the series in TPB form. This storyline is the "Stars My Destination" arc. Well worth seeking out!

In the Strange Adventures mini series last year, Prince Gavin was transformed into a very mid-90's type character whose name escapes me now. Hopefully, if anyone ever picks up the character again they will go back to the original look. The series (written by Starlin) was pretty good otherwise, with Adam Strange, Captain Comet,Prince Gavin and Bizarro playing big roles.

Yikes, I just looked that up - "During the events of the Strange Adventures mini that followed Rann-Thanagar Holy War, Gavyn was transformed by Synnar the Demiurge into a flame-haired being called Fusion". Sheesh, that doesn't sound like an improvement to me!

The Adventure Digests (with reprints of the Legion of Superheroes, and others such as this version of Starman) were beyond my budget when I was in elementary school ($1.25 as opposed to .60cents!), but now I can't find them anywhere!
