The Unknown Soldier and The Human Torch in: "The Informant and the Automaton!"

The Unknown Soldier was a great concept for a war comic.  There are so many real life heroes from wartime that the general public will never know of.  For me, this fictional soldier's anonymity seemed to pay tribute to all the sacrifices made by those whose deeds will never get the proper credit that they deserve.

These two heroes first met in STF #3404...

That is so true, Ross.

Btw: I would like to suggest another cartoon crossover if you can find the requisite images to mix and match. Conan and Thundarr! There were, at least, two animated series based on the former, back in the Nineties. One from JetLag Productions. Another from DIC. So pitting him against/alongside Ruby-Spears favorite barbarian should be relatively easy. I say "relatively" because I half-expect you'll have to provide one of your explanatory series of windows to prove me wrong. :-)

How about Conan and Xena.

Conan looks like a male Xena when in an ancient soldier suit.

Amen to all you said here, Ross. I find it even more distressing that current events are lessening the much-deserved recognition and appreciation for our men and women in uniform. (And that's probably more than enough to say about that.)

It does warrant pointing out, though, that this is the second time The Unknown Soldier has teamed up with the original Human Torch; they first met in #3404.

Actually, for this statement, I think I would've preferred to see him reunited with Captain America.

Thanks, Bob - I had forgottten that they had met before on the blog.

I read the two Showcase Presents Vols. of Unknown Soldier. It seems DC did a lot of good war comics back in the day.

I love the Unknown Soldier, he's my favorite of DC's war-genre characters, partly because of the things you're pointing out! I'd say that I hope he appears in the upcoming Sgt. Rock movie, but would we even know if he did? He could be any character we see there, maybe even including Rock himself!

How about a "Bug Brigade" vs "The Insects of Doom"? Ambush Bug, Forager/Bug (New Gods'), Bumblebee, Red Bee, all the Blue Beetles, Silver Scarab, Golden Age Yellow jacket (Charlton), Alias the Spider, The Spider Widow, (Quality), The Fly, Fly-Girl, Firefly (Archie/MLJ), Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Black Widow Wasp, Ant-Man, Mantis, The Tick, Spider Queen, Green Hornet, etc. VS Mr. Mind, Queen Bee, Killer Moth, Firefly, Bug-Eyed Bandit, The Ant, Spyder-Spry, The Beetle, The Fly, Black Spider, The Golden Wasp (or was it The Yellow Wasp?), etc.

Two in that list are slated to appear tomorrow.

I wonder if Europe’s non-nuclear countries can use “dirty bombs”.

Great matchup. How about She-Hulk taking on Glory? Or maybe Moonstone vs Jade?? In any case, keep up the superb work.
