Night Nurse and Dr. Manhattan

This is another one of those covers that required a lot of clean up, extension and de-cluttering of the original image before I could add in any new elements. Here's a look at the behind the scenes process:

Nothing ends, Night Nurse. Nothing ever ends.

Hey! That would make a great sequel.

"Night Nurse Meets The Endless!"

Who would have ever predicted this team-up? Certainly not me. Just brilliant.
The story is just begging to be written...
Step 1 - Diagnosis. (Easy peasy - clearly Nursie can see Doc has got a very severe case of the Blues..)
Step 2. Treatment. (Call for the Doctor... No, not Strange or even Doom. So Who (who prescribes a bracing trip in the Tardis to both ends of the multiverse at once...)
Step 3. Recovery...perhaps a return to the shattered remnants of the New 52 to give Doc a second chance at universe building...

Hope we get see these two develop their relationship further.

Hm. Night Nurse assisting Doctor Mid-Nite would be an interesting match-up.

On a related note, I think it'd be cool to see Kate Bishop and Beth Chapel form a partnership.

@Davejonz: I'd rather see Dr. Manhattan vs. Japanese Ultraman.

@Anon11AM: How about Japanese Ultraman vs. Carolyn Danvers as Capt. Marvel, instead? If only to see if they're indistinguishable in those crested face mask/helmets?

Who can help when Dr M needs a medic? Ray Palmer? Great reworking on the cover, Ross.

Carycomic said...

@Det. Tobor: Doc Savage would be more fitting. Prototype polymath and all that jazz.

not a team up i would have ever considered, but i like it…

@Anon824 When you put it like that, how about the Watchmen and the Endless? They may both be from DC, but it's not like DC would ever do it themselves, so...

The Watchmen vs. the Sentinels of Justice (from what was then called AmeriComics) would be more appropriate. The SOJ were initally composed of Charlton characters that were thought to be in the public domain. That is; till DC formed AC otherwise.

Anonymous said...

Sorry! That should've read "...till DC informed AC otherwise."

@Anon519: What a shocking grammatical error!

looks Timely to me. 😉

Have you done Marvel Night Nurse vs DC Nightmare Nurse?

Carycomic said...

Wouldn't Asa Winter be better as a "frenemy" of Buffy Summers?

Carycomic said...

That is; if for no other reason than Ross could depict real zombies singing "Crime Of The Season." ;-)

By the way, I thought the blending of the art styles on this one was great!

Plus, I ended up going and reading the Wikipedia entry on Win Mortimer. What a great history!

@Warren: Ross could even add Animaniacs' Hello Nurse!

The original Night Nurse panel baffles me. They want to kill a guy so they throw him into a hospital?

Carycomic said...

It was probably some standard plot gimmick like he had double-crossed them by stealing and hiding a big pile of stolen money. And, after accidentally wounding him, they took him to the hospital in order to keep him alive long enough to get the location of the cash cache.

Should Night Nurse be saying to Dr Manhattan, “Physician, heal thyself?”

Detective Tobor said...

@Bobbo, shouldn't he be able to heal himself?
