great idea from this cover Ross. These X- Men encased in a giant transparent tennis ball and being hit back and forth by those 2 fun loving Overlords, Darkseid and Thanos. Wimbledon eat your heart out.
These two guys cast from the same coin. (Hell of a big coin.) Now who would be their judge?
Don't get me wrong, I still think that Jack Kirby is a genius and his art has revolutionized comics, but there are times when I think his hand weighed quite a bit when it comes to faces or facial expressions, notably in Darkseid himself.
I prefer the more serious and almost impassive tone that other artists have portrayed this Kirby creation over the years. Seeing Darkseid with such a contorted face still bothers me a little.
B Paganini, I agree. Darkseid does look a tad OTT. The cold, calm D would actually be more threatening.

Yes, he does, Ross. Which is all the _more_ reason to keep hope alive for a JLA sequel within the next five years (or so).
@B.Paganini: Even an over-the-top Kirby is preferable to Franks Robbins and Springer. Their artwork on Detective Comics, during the 1970's, made even Batman look more like The Scarecrow!*
*Which is most definitely _not_ a good thing.
And so now we have Darkseid in a two-parter that almost perfectly recalls the original X-Men/Teen Titans team-up comic from the '80s. All that's needed to complete the set would be for the classic New Teen Titans roster to encounter Dark Phoenix (or, possibly, deal with the Phoenix Force trying to possess Starfire).
Cary's comment brought an idea to my mind that I'm surprised hasn't happened yet (and I remembered to check this time): Jonathan Crane versus Matt "Man Without Fear" Murdock. (The actual cover billing would probably be the other way around, of course.)

@B. Paganini: I'm wondering if this might actually be Mortimer Toynbee _impersonating_ Darkseid. After all, the Toad once impersonated the cosmically powered Stranger during the Floridian honeymoon of Vision and the Scarlet Witch! And, when drawn by The King, he had the same facial tick as Quasimodo (the Mad Thinker's renegade computer-turned-robot) which, in turn, is kind of similar to what Ross photo-captured here.
Not at all. When you're a cop you're walking your beat. a beat is the territory and time that a police officer patrols. So it would take place in the "Dead Lantern District!"
