Giant-Man Vs. Booster Gold

Hank Pym has had a lot of different looks over the years as Giant Man, Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. I liked the visor that he sported as Yellowjacket and in the costume he is wearing on the cover above.  They had a high tech feel to them and gave him a slightly more menacing presence.  I imagine they had some heads-up display abilities in them, similar to Iron Man's helmet.

This was the Hank Pym that was not made fun of. Beautiful.
Booster came back too early when Hank just started the project and doesn't believe what Ted Cord's buddy had to tell Hank. complications abound.

I always preferred Giant-Man's red outfit, but he can still go to the ball in this. And combined with Booster's blue and gold it makes them look as if they should be on the same team instead of facing off as adversaries.

Sorry. Came out sounding a bit carping. Not the intention at all. I like it!

That's his first Goliath costume. It doesn't get nearly enough callback. Nice job on the cover.

Hmmmmmm! This might make an interesting tail-end for a trilogy. Assuming, that is, one regarded STF #'s 2914 and 2916 as the first and second parts, respectively!

I mean, picture it. First, the teaming of Batman and Giant-Man against the two Eggheads who were trying to build a robot using Hank Pym's prototypical A.I. database. Then, it's revealed that the programming for the database was secretly supplied by a time-traveling Brainiac (upgraded discourtesy of the Technarchy's transmode virus). And, now, that virus is in danger of taking over the entire Milky Way Galaxy by the 31st century! That is, till Brainiac 5 tachyonically sends a holograhic warning to Michael Jon Carter.

"Help us, Booster Gold. You're our only hope."

To which Skeets would no doubt reply: "God help us, all!"

@ Davejonz: mistaken-identity slugfests have become an almost mandatory trope, these days.

Hm.... I'm not sure that the concept of the optical head-mounted display (OHMD) existed when the above costume appeared; I don't think so, but I'm far from certain since I can determine the actual date of neither.

Regardless of that, I do think that this is an interesting cover; it looks like just the sort of thing that Booster would try, and just the sort of remark he'd make.

And I do agree with you about this costume; it's one of Hank's better costume designs. I don't remember ever seeing it before, but I think I must've because I can see the influence of its lines in many of the superhero costumes I made playing Champions in the '80s. Maybe we can see Laurence Fishburne wearing something like it during a flashback in the next Ant-Man movie (even though what most people are clamoring for and expecting in that is Stature).

I also found myself echoing Davejonz' first comment, in how similar these two heroes' color schemes are. With a bit of color adjustment, I could see them deciding to "buddy up" against some foe. (To really make the color scheme count, Booster could take Hank back to the mid-1800s to protect Oregon's statehood; it's our semi-official color combo, after all!)

@Cary: That's pretty much the sentiment I'd hope for if Ross ever comes through with the Klutz Commandos. In fact, I first heard it in the TV-movie The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (which I recommend if you can find it).

@Ross: If you have seen, or get to see, the above-recommended movie, you might consider putting Flynn Carson on a cover here, possibly paired with either Indiana Jones, Cipher, the Warehouse 13 crew, or Doctor Who. Just a thought.

Hoy Murphy is correct! 1966, Avengers #28, the first time he showed this outfit, and after Hawkeye said he was a real Goliath, Hank said he was going to call himself that from now on. It's my fave Hank Pym large person costume.

@Bob Greenwade: I saw it when it first premiered on TNT! :-)

But, I had mixed feelings about the way they brought Nicole back for the final season of the weekly spin-off series. It smacked too much of shark-jumping!

@Cary: I haven't been able to get Season 4 yet, but I did know about Nicole returning so you didn't really spoil much. Maybe it was shark-jumping, but then again it was the final season, so one probably led to the other.

Sad, but true. :-(
