Dick Tracy and Wonder Woman

I was a little disappointed not to see any reference to Wonder Woman in the recent CW Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.  They managed to get all of the other major DC Icons in there one way or another.  There was even a Green Lantern reference on the last episode.  Lynda Carter has worked for the Arrowverse before, it's too bad she didn't get a cameo here.

insult to her injury- on Crisis Aftermath, twas said it was Wonder Woman that had introduced the parallel worlds idea to dc. Chauvinism is alive and well.

@I'm not a moose: BTW, "Pirates of Dark Water" introduced parallel dimensions, too, though unless I'm wrong, it was otherwise only planet-side with it's stories, despite being set on an alien planet with an alien sky (with a "Saturn"), and non-earthly-looking fauna (though the flora was more Earth-like); it was, de facto, "an alternate Earth".

Nice to see parallel Earths being talked about. @Anon 8:41, I hope you're familiar with all the different tv series that have had parallel Earths in them going back to Twilight Zone and Star Trek in the 1960s, even Dark Shadows.

@I'm not a moose - that would explain all those stories of Diana back then, fighting some version of herself that wasn't a robot. As to a credit, not all pioneers get recognized for what they have done. But she should be then.

The producers were in talks with Lynda's people right up to the last minute (I understand that they were still at it even when the front half was airing), but they just couldn't get things worked out. I'm not sure what the snag was; I'd assume it was some combination of salary and scheduling, as was the case with most other non-Batman cameos that didn't happen. (I don't know why Dean Cain and Helen Slater weren't on, even if only as Kara's foster parents; I can only assume scheduling was the main thing.)

Still, it would've been nice to have at least a reference to Wonder Woman, even if it was just a throwaway -- like change the Ezra Miller Flash's last line to, "Diana told me this was possible!" That would acknowledge the character, and even how the Earth-Two WW was the first in DC to visit an alternate Earth.

PS: There's a rumor that Diggle will get a GL ring on next Tuesday's Arrow series finale. (It'd be extra sweet if he got it from a "dying" Ryan Reynolds!) We'll just see what actually happens.

Re: this cover? Looks like the Duke of Deception is at it, again.

Smallville's Mikey said he was offered a chance but they had no idea what he'd be doing or when. He passed.

@I'm not a moose does that mean you're Rocky the Flying Squirrel? Glad to meet you.

The cynic side of me says Berlanti was only allowed to use the movie heroes that have been totally FUBARed, ie Supes, Bats, GL, and Flash. Since WW is now the last best hope of the DCEU, she's still off limits.

Bob Greenwade said...

@Jay: The crossover actually had to dance around Batman, to the point of not explicitly identifying Kevin Conroy's Bruce Wayne as having actually used the name Batman, mainly because of the upcoming The Batman film. Superman was already established in this multiverse, and the Green Lantern Easter egg was because of the upcoming GL TV show on HBO MAX.

And seriously, there really were talks with Lynda Carter about a WW cameo. DC's PTB did give the OK to that. Really.

(As to why WW was OK but Bats wasn't... well, that's a complicated thing involving the risk of confusing casual movie-goers. I don't claim to really understand the thinking behind it, but that's the reason that's been given.)

@Bob: us casual movie-goers are never given enough credit for our intelligence.

could that be cause the people in charge are working more with ego and determination than intelligence and common sense?

Since we've already seen both Batman (or Trigon's version of him) and Bruce in Titans, and Diana has already been mentioned by Donna, I expect that when she finally shows back up on the small screen it will be there.

And I'm sure if Lynda Carter wants to go back to Supergirl we'll find out she's now President Luthor's Secretary of Alien affairs or Vice President or somesuch.

@Anon: Well, maybe. I do know a few people who, having watched T^he Mandalorian, have had to have it explained to them that "Baby Yoda" is not actually baby Yoda. That has me starting to wonder how many people will actually skip the big-screen Flash movie because they haven't kept up with the TV show.

I don't get (as in "subscribe to" not "comprehend") Disney+, myself. So, I can leave rather than take THE MANDALORIAN.

@Bob @ Cary: Besides which, it might be more accurate to call him "Yoda's baby!"

With perhaps Jedi Master Yaddle (the only other tridactyl humanoid known in the Old Republic) being his mom!!

I mean, the little guy was 800 years old, by his own admission!!!

He couldn't have occupied all his spare time, as an adult, by just meditating on that hassock far, far away.

Can you imagine Mace Windu requesting a paternity test from old Yoda?

And Yoda's response being to hold up all three fingers of the hand not holding his cane.
