I have to hand it to Sony Pictures. While there had been lots of speculation about the Venom Sequel, and whether Tom Holland's Spider-Man would appear in it, they decided to throw fans a curve. The Morbius trailer not only featured Spider-Man imagery (reflecting the hero's new status following Far From Home), Michael Keaton's Vulture actually showed up in it, connecting the solo Sony film with the MCU Spidey. I know it certainly got me more interested in a project that I hadn't been paying too much attention to.

Will Venom meet the Red Skull (whose mask also is cranial in appearance)?
Pt 2 of the 3 parter. Part 3 shows what happens when the Mask is put on Amazo.
Can Amazo duplicate the Mask's powers when it's not on him? How would you defeat him?
Anybody else remember that the bodycount for the Mask's first couple of books was 17? And not just bad guys either. At least one cop was killed by him.

The situation is certainly a cool twist. The story of how it comes to be, and how it's resolved, would be a fun read.

The Spider-Man references in the Morbius movie were, I think, a smaller part of the deal between Sony and Disney. The Venom pictures -- and, by extension, this one -- are allowed to make reference to what happens in Spider-Man's MCU films, and Spider-Man characters in those films are allowed to make reference to what he does in other MCU films (like Infinity War and Endgame). Similarly, when Spider-Man shows up in a Disney-produced MCU movie, he's allowed to reference whatever happens when he's been a guest in a Venom (or Morbuis) movie. The Venom and Morbius movies, while not a direct part of any Phase or Saga of the MCU, do then become an ancillary part of it, pumping up interest in those projects (I'm sure that you and I aren't the only ones, Ross). That becomes a sweet deal for Sony, making up for the revenue they're losing from Disney taking a bigger share of the Spider-Man movies.
