Andy Serkis is playing Alfred Pennyworth in the new Batman movie. Filming has just begun, so perhaps we will see a shot of him in character soon - will we finally get a movie Alfred with a mustache? I'd still like to see Serkis return as Klaw in a Black Panther sequel. Yes, he was killed, but that just means that he can come back in energy from as a more comic accurate version of the villain.

Alfred and Black Panther

In the 1970's Klaw was described as becoming a being of solidified sound.
Wow. Ross, this one is a classic! You've outdone yourself. It's just a perfect pairing, melding 2 iconic figures, the offstage Batman more than Alfred and the Panther. Who better to take over as Batman in Gotham? A story I'd just love to read. This is just crying out for a follow up or three.
I don't think there's been a mustached Alfred since Alan Napier in the "Batman '66" feature film!
Re: today's cover? I don't think there's been an African-American Batman (who's actually gone by that code-name) since Stan Lee's "Just Imagine..." stories for DC.
Bravo on the second! I'll cross my fingers for the first. :-)
I cannot see Black Panther leaving home for long periods the way he is written to protect Gothamites.
@Glenn: Unless he uses a SHIELD LMD to hold the throne in his absence.
Does anyone else wish Serkis had been cast as Two-Face?
There do seem to be a lot of covers in this blog where Bruce is missing. They ought to tie in together somehow, thought I have no idea how to go about it and still leave room for more. (They could also relate to the Arrowverse's Earth-1 Batman being missing -- though I don't recall the status of the one on Earth-38.)
@First Anon: Ross did say "energy form," which in comics parlance includes solidified sound.
@Cary: Actually T'Challa is African, not African-American. But your overall point is valid. And hopefully we'll get to see Wayne Williams meet Ultimate Universe Nick Fury around the first of February (as a nice Black History Month nod).
@Glenn: T'Challa could be just coming in to hold the fort until Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, or some other trustworthy Gothamite can take over.
@Aaron: Nah. Penguin. For Two-Face, I'll lean more toward Brad Pitt.
But, requisite political satire aside, wouldn't T'Challa have dual citizenship through his marriage to Ororo (whose father was American)?
I almost hate to tell you this, Anon, but Storm and the BP are now (amicably?) divorced.
ironic. Alfred was just killed "again". He gets killed almost as much as Ra's. He was first killed on Earth-1 and was later brought back as the Outsider. He got better and was made normal later. Will he be brought back again? Depends on a writer.
As for Panther doing Batman for Gotham? It's one thing to have perfect memory, super reflexes and such...but he ain't going to be wearing that costume. Protect the city is easy but acting like Batman when he has a whole different style doing everything? Nope, he ain't going to be in that costume long.
@ Glenn He was the new Man Without Fear when he replaced Daredevil for awhile and @ det_Tobor I think he would use some of Batman's methods but I agree that I don't see him in the Bat costume.
I'd love to see a Batman/Black Panther/ Luke Cage (pre-Power Man/original HOH) team-up.
@Aaron: I'd rather see him cast as The Mandarin, opposite RDJr's Iron Man. That way, Ross could refer to him as...
"Ten-Ring Serkis!"
@ most recent anonymous: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROAN!
