Spider-Man and Robin in: "Summoned by the Spider-Signal!"

Visitors, including Blog Patron Bob Greenwade, seemed to get a kick out of the Spider-Signal from STF #2378, so I felt that it deserved an origin issue of its own.  Spidey and Robin shared a Bronze Age adventure with Batgirl in STF #938, and Spidey met the Tim Drake Robin in STF #838. Don't tell him, but this isn't the first altered Bat-Signal - The Human Torch got his own way back in my B&B: The Lost Issues days...

Imagine what the signal would be for Captain Caveman.

What could the signal be for Power Girl?

There was canonically an 'Arrow-Signal' -- a fiery arrow shot into the sky -- to summon Green Arrow & Speedy (in the Arrow-car, from the Arrow-cave, of course) back in the Silver Age.

Jerry, obviously a stylised letter P.

@Anonymous: or a capital "v" between two periods within a pair of parentheses. Yes, that is an in-joke reference to "The Martian."

As to this prequel cover? It has a suitably retro feel to it. Mr. Ditko, himself, might have even loved it! Now, if only a sequel could be done, showing the Tim Drake Robin driving the Spider-Buggy up the outside of GCPD HQ. ;-)

Awesomesauce!!! I do hope that the Spider-Signal is a recurring thing here on STF:LI. Not too frequently, of course, but once every few months. For instance, Spidey might take an apologetic stance with Batman ("Hey, sorry, man! It wasn't my idea!") or be called to help out Iron Beetle (I still totally love that design).

@Cary: Nah. A more likely use of the Spider-Buggy would be Ambush Bug taking it for a joy ride.

R. Crumb's Mr. Natural driving the Spider-Buggy for Uber, picking up Lois & Clark!

Anon 1 here. I think I was being too subtle. Captain Caveman's club could look like a (baseball) bat signal.

In an offbeat comic (Off the Mark, Bizarro, etc.) recently I think I saw a Bat-signal that was modified to a spider silhouette.

I've always wanted a Peter Parker/Dick Grayson team up. Though I'd prefer Nightwing to Robin.

Nightwing has met Spidey on the blog before.

I second Bob Greenwade's motion. All in favor, say "aye!"

@ the first Anonymous: If the Dark Knight coached a Little League team, would they use Bat-bats?

@ the last Anonymous: In the Bombshells' universe (set in WWII), Batgirl just used a regular baseball bat against German spys in Gotham (she was a "League of Their Own" player).

Now that I think about it, the Bombshells and the Invaders would make a good (if crowded) cover.

@the Anonymous who seconded my motion: Which one? I had at least three suggestions there.

Ken said...

@Ross - I meant as a DC/Marvel crossover. This is just a very nice appetizer :D

@Bob Greenwade: the depiction of an Ambush Buggy.

I third that motion! :-)

Jerry Griggs II the Star of Her Grandfather Arion Lord Of Atlantis would make a Great Signal for Power Girl.

Is that robot with the triple antennae supposed to be an Old School Spider-slayer?

Ross said...

That's what he looked like to me. I actually built his lower half, the original image ended just below his top arm.

Thank you, Ross.
