Ambush Bug in The Marvel Universe

Maybe even more than the title character herself, I am looking forward to The Skrulls being introduced in Captain Marvel.  They are probably my favorite evil alien race in comics and it will be cool to see what shapeshifting shenanigans they get up to.  I'm wondering if any already established MCU characters will be revealed to have been sleeper Skrulls all along?

Maybe Twilight Sparkle could invite Latias (a pokemon) to go through that magical crystal mirror from the Equestria Girls movies, thereby getting a bit of revenge on pokemon for teasing the ponies for having girly Barbie-ish forms by turning Latias into a REAL PRETTY GIRL (resembling her friend Bianca), not an illusion, as in the movie Pokemon Heroes...

Maybe Ash Ketchum could happen to find his father's hidden stash of Sailor Moon hentai; unlike Sailor Moon, the closest thing to hentai that Pokemon had (at least in the American version) appear to be the likes of Brock's fantasy of pretty girls in bikinis in a water show, and Brock holding Gligarman's daughter in CLUTCHES.

Very fun cover, Ross! I had to check the tags to recognize Dagger and Rogue, so I'm very glad that you do that. (I also recognize Tigra and Medusa as two of the volleyball players.) The whole scenario is just so perfect for Ambush Bug -- especially that thought balloon -- that I'm a little surprised that something like this hasn't been done here before now.

I don't think that any characters who have had a solo movie, or who have been announced as leads in upcoming streaming-TV shows, will turn out to be Skrulls. Not knowing who were Skrulls in the original Secret Invasion, I could guess that Pepper Potts might be. Hawkeye's wife might be a candidate. I think it'd be wild if Hank Pym turned out to be a Skrull (replaced after the conception of Hope, of course), though it'd be more fun if it was Dave and/or Kurt (Luis' crew). Of Netflix characters, I could see Dorothy Walker (Jessica Jones' foster mother) or Theo Nelson (Foggy's brother) turning out to be Skrull replacements.

I wonder if you'd ever be willing to use art from DeviantArt and other sources for a cover. With the Arrowverse crossover coming in a couple of weeks, it might be interesting to see that recognized with some of the mashup characters on that site, from Goofylactus to Popeye the Sailor Moon.

I've saved this last observation for last because I don't want this to pop up too early on anyone's page: That little "Easter egg" in Rogue's hands is just brilliant. It has me wondering if anyone else notices it before seeing this paragraph!

I had a hard time taking Ambush Bug seriously, then I realized you weren't supposed to.

I remember the first Skrull story in FF way back when. Three out of four Skrulls were captured. And the fourth one finally turned up many years later.

In the Avengers, of all places. He was a politician who was finally exposed at the conclusion of the Kree-Skrull war (which would have made a great Avengers 4, if Marvel hadn't had to deal with expiring contracts for the original actors).

@Bob Greenwade -- in the story we could only call "Goofylactus Intolerant!"

Speaking of sleeper agents, maybe Boris & Natasha could form a suburban sleeper agent family like real-life Russians did.

Ooh, now I want to see Spy vs Spy vs Boris & Natasha...

Or Secret Squirrel vs Boris & Natasha...

Or Spy vs Spy vs Secret Squirrel...

The possibilities are endless!

Love this cover. Where's it originally from. Ambush Bug would probably LOVE the MU. I'm sure him and Deadpool would either bond or hate each other for their 4th wall-breaking capabilities.

The question is, Ross, will they be officially called "Skrulls?" Or, will they just be a verdantly-colored minority of the Chitauri who attacked NYC in the first Avengers movie?*

*OK! So, that's technically _two_ questions. They're both valid, though!

Moving on from Dale's comment, Ross, would you consider a cover with Amanda Waller recruiting a collection of characters who break through the fourth wall?

Anonymous said...

Only if that collection included Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller. As such an omission would be veritably unforgivable!

;-)

Or a group of Legionnaires or somebody confronting Chameleon Boy. "You're not a Durlan. We know you're a Skrull."

Carycomic said...

Who knows, Emsley? Durla might even have been a Skrull colony (in the galactic prehistory of Universe-STF)!

Unknown said...

Durla was an Earth type planet that had
a global nuclear war and the survivors mutated. How far back, six Durlans post mutation were on Ancient Earth posted as Greek gods but the time lost LSH showed them up and the fakes shoved off.

@Unknown: That was in the pre-COIE DCU. Ross would probably give that world a whole different backstory if he were to depict on of his cover sims, here,

So, at the volleyball game: Medusa and Tigra are -- as already mentioned -- obvious...
Would that be the Wasp behind the net, and the Scarlet Witch to the right (our right) of Medusa? Who's the other one?

Now here's a great idea...... Durians vs Skrulls!

Durlans

I second Isaac's suggestion.
