Rosenbaum has gone on record as not wanting to play a character on the CW's current DCU.
The Avengers have always been my favorites in all of Marvel. I was soaking up Avengers stories when everyone else was soaking up the X-Men. I have always thought that this was one of their better line ups also. Add in Hawkeye, Cap, Falcon, Black Panther, and Quicksilver, and there is, to me, the ultimate line up of Avengers. Where crossovers are concerned, there is no better DC villain that Luthor for them to face. One thing that I have been curious to see would this line up of Avengers, perhaps with another one or two of them, against the Legion of Doom. This would feature subplots of the villain maybe facing the closet thing to the Marvel counterpart of their DC enemy, such as Captain Cold vs. Quicksilver, Giant Man vs. Giganta. Others might see Vision vs. Braniac, Wonder Man vs. Grodd, Cap vs. Luthor. Great stuff!

Michael Rosenbaum is the Perfect Flash, you can't over cook him or under cook him, he comes out right every time.
The Arrowverse has yet to show me a truly disappointing performance, and I doubt that Jon Cryer will be the first. (Admittedly, Amy Gumenick's Cupid and Jessica De Gouw's Huntress came close, though they didn't actually cross the line.) Many a comedic actor has shown some excellent dramatic acting ability -- Robin Williams and Jim Carrey come to mind -- and I think Jon will surprise us all.
As for this cover, it's notable that none of the Avengers in this assemblage (yes, I did go there) are aliens -- It's true that Thor, even on Earth-616, is from Asgard, which isn't Earth, but he doesn't technically qualify as an alien. In the past couple of decades Luthor has been increasingly shown to be not only avaricious but xenophobic, and this could play a role in the story.
And what's this "impending threat" he speaks of? Could it have something to do with #2418? Might one find a connection to #2372, 2360, and/or #2342? Could Robo-Force play a part, from their "Destruction of Humanity" storyline? Maybe we'll find out in #2500!
Re: Crazy Ivan's comment: Hopefully, before Supergirl is cancelled, we'll be able to wear Michael down. Maybe he can show up as Emil Hamilton. (Yes, there's already an Amelia Hamilton; maybe the two could be siblings, or cousins, or something.)
And Mickey's comment got me thinking about how the Defenders (led, of course, by Dr. Strange) would handle the Demons Three.
Jon Cryer eh? Well that's Just Ducky, although I stopped watching the preachy whinging CW shows a few weeks ago and I'm not coming back. Man it was a MajOr Bugaboo to clean that off my netflix.
No one could be as bad as Jesse Eisenberg even trying. I think Jesse Eisenberg would have trouble duplicating such a bad performance.
I have to agree with you, Ross. Eisenberg's Luthor was basically just a "mad" scientist version of the character he played in the "Now You See Them" flicks!
More annoying than fiendishly mad.
Is the argument against Cryer that he may not be able to do this because he's grounded in comedy?
Wasn't that the argument against Michael Keaton doing BATMAN back in 1989...?

@Jim Ryan: Michael Keaton succeeded because he provided a nice balance between the campiness of Adam West and the (later) grim-and-grittiness of Christian Bale.
@Mickey: That's not a bad idea! Luthor becomes an ally of convenience with the Avengers because a certain Latverian monarch has not only usurped his leadership of the super-villainous group Luthor helped found. He's also had the effrontery to rename it...

The Avengers line-up 1983-1985 was the BEST line up for the simple fact that I was ages 13,14 and 15 during that time. Don't argue with me!!
