Animal Man and The Pet Avengers

With so much teeth-clenching, grim and gritty comics out there, it's nice to have concepts on the fun side like The Pet Avengers to lighten things up from time to time.  I think vast universes like Marvel and DC have built can support characters and titles of all kinds and there is room for whimsy along with the angst. Given Buddy Baker's power to mimic the abilities of any animal in his vicinity, I think this would make for a formidable partnership.

There was a time when Pet Avengers were the only Marvel comics I had any interest in buying. What with Skrull sleeper agents, implanted memories, the Age of Apocalypse, The House of M, Earth X, and every notable character who had ever died suddenly alive again, it seemed, bizarrely, as if the animal sidekicks were the only characters still operating in continuity.

Speaking of staying in continuity, does anyone know why Animal Man wasn't one of the DC titles offered for September? They're going to have some kind of focus on villains that month and the titles previously grouped as "The Dark" are now grouped with the rest of the "New 52" titles. For some reason, Animal Man isn't offered that month.

I like your way of thinking on this team-up, Ross. It's one of those things that I don't think a lot of other people would have thought of, but once seen it makes sense.

It's a whole lot better than my most recent weird dream: the Lone Ranger and Tintin. (Sombody made a mistake at Central Casting....)
