The Thing and Steel

My favorite character to come out of the Death of Superman event has to be John Henry Irons. I thought he had a unique look and viewpoint and was glad that he caught on enough as a character to warrant his own series. I'm not sure if it was the lackluster Shaquille O'Neal film adaptation's influence or not, but for some reason Steel has kind of faded into the background in the past decade or so. He was featured in the 52 maxi-series and since then hasn't seen much action. I'd like to see him gain a larger prominence in the DCU, as he has a lot to offer.

Well, he did just get a one shot to kick off the "reign of doomsday" crossover event. Of course, it was twenty pages of him getting his butt kicked and looking just plain ineffectual, but a headlining book nonetheless.

Dave sez,

I cringe whenever I hear that phrase, "The Death of Superman". It's a genre, now...boring, stale character or storyline? Let's shake things up by killing off a character. Then bring him back in six or twelve months...

I don't know why, but I liked Superboy best of the pack. Steel was okay...

John Henry is a good man. I really enjoyed his appearance in 52...except for the Infinity, Inc. connection...

Maybe I missed what made him the Hero beneath the suit...

Are you still taking requests? I would like to ask you to do one with Plutonian, from Mark Waid's Irredeemable, if that's not a problem.

I'm not familiar with that character... I have heard good things about Irredeemable, though.
