The Thing and Terra

The whole Judas Contract Saga from New Teen Titans was one of the great comic book reading experiences of my youth. The rise and fall of Terra made for some excellent cliffhangers and dramatic moments. Marv Wolfman and George Perez were truly at the top of their form - and that's saying something! I can only imagine how the twists and turns in that storyline would be spoiled in todays day of internet coverage. I know the animated Teen Titans featured a version of this storyline during one of their seasons, but that was changed quite a bit from the comics. I'd like to see DC devote one of its direct to video animated films to the saga, with a much more faithful adaptation. I'm betting that DC doesn't want to create market confusion with its currently running Young Justice series, so it will probably be a while before we see any DTVs starring the 80's Teen Titans.

You're getting close to the end of the alphabet. Any thoughts about what you'll do next? Marvel Team-Up and DC Comics Presents are the two other major team-up books that I can think of...

There's more on Tara and that storyline in the archives of historiesofthingstocome.blogspot.com , maintained by tamaranorbust (aka ToB).

As for where to go after Thing meets Zorro (or, if we're lucky, Zot!), those four titles (B&B, DCCP, MTU and MTIO) are the longest running by far. But there's also the tabloid sized "Marvel and DC Present" with Superman Vs. Spider-Man or Batman Vs. The Hulk and the normal comic-sized Uncanny X-men Vs. The New Teen Titans (1982?).

Superman is tougher to use due to the asymmetrical "S". I do have one idea for a follow up but it is way down the road.

The Judas Contract Saga subplot, that I believe spanned over two years (1983-1984/5?) was something I have never seen since that era. I mean, Marv Wolfman had George Perez gradually recede Raven's hairline over 20 issues, until it became a widow's peak. That was just one of many different little things that Marv and George orchestrated. I just don't see such a thing happening today.

Dave sez,

Awesome cover!
Can't wait to see where you're going with this!

Terra is one of the greatest characters, and Wolfman & Perez's run leading up to The Judas Contract is nothing short of brilliant! It's such a good story that I actually miss Terra being gone. I'm glad she "got what she deserved"...shame that DC brought a Terra back...she is a great character...

How about the Thing and Terra-MAN?

The Thing's skin is made of rock, Terra's power is control over rocks - the possibilities for this story are endless!
