Batman and Tommy Tomorrow
Here's another early effort, this time a request from a friend who is a big Tommy Tomorrow fan. Tommy is one of those space faring DC heroes that were popular in the 60's. He has made sporadic appearances here and there, although these days his time travelling efforts are probably overshadowed by those of Booster Gold and Rip Hunter. Still, DC has been able to find new stories to tell with Adam Strange and Captain Comet, so perhaps a Tommy Tomorrow revival will happen one day.

I bought Howard Chaykin & Jose LG Lopez's early '90s "Twilight" from a dollar box a while back, and just read them recently. Tommy is the main villain in that twisted re-imagining of some of DC's classic SF characters. Strange, interesting stuff, with probably the best artwork in Lopez's career.
Unfortunatley for me another fine character I'm not entirely familiar with...
Didn't DC "retcon" Tommy Tomorrow out of it's future and replace him with Kamandi? Isn't that the way? Retcon, re-imagine, turn into a villain or kill off...Didn't they do that with Captain Atom - I mean Hawk with - what was that? - Millenium?
Has Tommy been collected as a Showcase volume?
Yeah, I think I remember DC somehow merging Kamandi and Tommy Tomorrow as characters at the end of the first Crisism but I am not sure if that retcon stuck.
I loved the art of Twilight but hated the story, too depressing for the characters involved.
The 1985 Crisis merged the Kamandi/Tommy Tomorrow series so that only Tommy existed in the proper DC Universe. But in the series Countdown to Final Crisis, an entire earth (one of fifty-two new ones; collect the entire set) was destroyed, and a new one was created to take its place, and that new one was nearly identical to the original Kamandi earth. So. Tommy Tomorrow exists as part of the future history of the primary DC earth (as well as several of the other parallel earths, hence the Twilight version may be out there somewhere), while the Kamandi version of Tommy has at least one earth to himself - this may be the version we saw in Wednesday Comics.
Tommy is such an interesting character, probably DC's answer to Flash Gordon. I would love to see a collection of his run. They might even bring him back entirely, not sure why DC does not really use their Sci-Fi characters, Marvel seems to embrace them and they are very succesful with that strategy.
tommy tomorrow needs to meet waverider crew on legends of tomorrow
