Machine Man and Captain Atom

Time for an all-Ditko cover.  Neither of these guys has received so much as a mention in the Marvel and DC cinematic universes.  I wonder which will be featured in live action first?  I think that both of them could be pretty impressive visually on the big screen.

Well, if Dr. Manhattan could be brought to cinematic life in 2009's THE WATCHMEN, I honestly don't see how it could be deemed impossible to do the same thing for Capt. Atom.

As for Machine Man? Marvel Films could do a co-production with MGM/UA tying his origin into the Black Pylon from "2001" and "2010" (aka "The Space Odyssey" flicks). Something like "attracted to the sudden creation of a second sun, an entity called Galactus came to our solar system...and absorbed the energy of both. I'm the sole survivor only because of a black pylon that, for some reason, teleported me to your Earth."

Such a plot gimmick could be used in a Dr. Strange sequel guest-starring America Chavez and Reed Richards...and re-introducing the Silver Surfer.

As for the identity of the pilot? I'll say it's Ace Morgan from the Challengers of the Unknown.

With Captain Atom, it's only a matter of time before he shows up. How much time depends on how well James Gunn is able to pull WB's and DC's corporate heads out of their [expletive deleted]. The Justice League core membership is the priority for now, and I think we'll see Ted Kord and Vic Sage before Allen Adam.

With Machine Man, an origin without the Monoliths may be necessary, but shouldn't be hard. Given the California location of his origin, I think he's most likely to show up in a future Ant-Man film.

And given that the California city he's from is Central City, perhaps he could help the Flash and Sonic the Hedgehog form the Central City Protectors? The Elric brothers (Fullmetal Alchemist) and an Autobot* would be appropriate as well.

Speaking of Autobots, I think Grimlock vs. Godzilla would make for an interesting visual. Or team Grimlock with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

*Bumblebee is the obvious choice, but why go obvious?

We're already past the year in which the Machine Man limited series took place, so something tells me we shouldn't hold our breath.

As for Captain Atom, that seems a bit more likely, but again, not holding my breath. Honestly, that always seemed a bit silly to me anyway, not to mention dangerous.

@Bob G. -- And in the land of newspaper comic strips, Brenda Starr is a reporter for the Central City Flash. Do we have the basis for a new team here?

With regard to comic strips, Spidey and Daredevil teaming up to protect Judge Parker would be just as fitting (if not more so).

@Daviticus and Bob Greenwade: Machine Man being from a parallel Earth is still viable. Just have him teleported from an alternate 2020 as the result of a trap by Sunset Bain. With the Vision as an unexpected traveling companion!

Dear Ross: for the weekend of March 24, I humbly suggest... "John Wick vs. The Punisher!"

Maybe using photo-captures of Keanu Reeves and Dolph Lundgren?

P.S.----speaking of John Wick, I learned earlier this evening that Lance Reddick ("Charon the Concierge") passed away, yesterday, at only age 60. Only three years younger than me!

My condolences to his family and friends.

@Other Bob: I didn't even bother bringing up TV's Dobie Gillis (which did get a comic book). He could be the team mascot, while Brenda is the press liaison.

@Anon@10:44: I hadn't thought of the Vision. Machine Man could make his debut appearance in Vision Quest, which will hopefully happen in Phase 6.

@Cary: I remember Lance mainly from his role on Fringe. His passing scares me a little, as he was less than a year younger than me, but died of "natural causes."

It'a also eerily ironic that his next-best-known character is named for the ferry boatman of souls in Greek mythology.

i think i really prefer the yellow on the Capt. Fine cover, but a rogue pilot can still be a good guy.
