Tarzan and Hawkman

This is a crossover that I really wish DC had done.  Joe Kubert is in my opinion the greatest comic book artist to ever live and it would have been great to see him work on a projects featuring two characters that he depicted so masterfully.  Heck, throw in Sgt. Rock and you might just have the perfect comic book!

All that, but he was never called Joe Cool. I love this cover, before Katar Hol got his helmet wings. He could have been following a non-Earthly threat to Tarzan's neighborhood. The potentials!!!....And yes, Rock could have gotten involved too.

I remember the real-world version of this cover. It's from DC's version of Tarzan back when they were "still only twenty cents!" The story in that particular issue having been based on a short story about the Ape Man wolfing down some bad leftovers from an elderly Gomangani...and tripping out as a result.

great cover, but doesn't this break your own internal idea as this is a team-up which could have happened as they are both
DC properties????

Tarzan was just licensed momentarily and besides the rule is about team ups that actually happened. This one never did, even when it could have.

Ergo, in the real world, this would be a DC/ERB crossover.

@Ross: I'll concedE this much. Mr. Kubert was Crown Prince. But, Mr. Kirby was truly THE KING!

And at the time the Burroughs estate would have refused any attempt to have any ERB property appear in a crossover with any DC (or Marvel, or Gold Key) character. So, this is firmly within Super-Team Family's fanciful realm.

i always preferred Joe Kubert to the wacky kirby artwork.
this would have been a dream team up,
all we needed was the gigantic flying Gorillas

I'd call gigantic flying gorillas pretty wacky. :-)

Artwork aside, as characters Tarzan and the Golden Age Hawkman* are well suited for teaming up. Pairing an archaeologist (albeit one mainly focused on Egyptian history) with the King of the Apes just seems right.

The Egyptian theme may also be a good excuse to team the Golden Age Hawkman with Moon Knight.

*Yes, logically I know that this is probably the Silver Age Hawkman. But I'll take a bit of license to connect the two characters.

Not Sgt Rock....maybe....THE VIKING PRINCE ?

@Bob Greenwade: one needs a license to operate Dr. Doom's confiscated time platform (as in, the device that first introduced the FF to Rama-Tut)?

Kubert's work on Tarzan back in the day was pure joy.
