Sgt. Rock Vs. Mephisto

They do say that war is Hell, so this is a match up that might actually make a crazy kind of sense.  Even with the ultimate power at his fingertips, I'd like to believe that Sgt. Rock would make the right decision here.  I'd love to see Mephisto's reaction when his plans failed due to the will of a single America soldier.

Talk about Everything Everywhere All At Once!! That is an inspired cover!!
Of course, the follow up questions are What would the big M want in return for The Sgt to use it ...and..
if the device is truly that powerful, why wouldn't Mephisto have what he would want already?

It looks like Mr. Rash (from STF #3975) got his wish. Or half of it, anyway. Perhaps the Viking Prince can be teamed up with another of Joe Kubert's brain-children for STF #4001?

Like, say, Prince Jon and Capt. Carter vs. the red-bearded Thor (on-again/off-again enemy of the Golden Age Hawkman) over possession of the real Mjolnir?

@Tobor: Because that's not Mephisto's style. He has the power to force much of what he'd want, but what he really wants is for people to choose the darker path, and to make bargains with him.

@Cary: I think that that same Thor may have once made an appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olson in the early 70s.

Ahh, Mephisto learned his lesson with the Infinity Gauntlet: manipulate some other fool to use a wildly uncontrollable power source. Otherwise, it can destroy you, and you spend all your time watching out for usurpers. "Think carefully Rock. It will end the war, and save millions of lives. Simply deliver their souls... to me!"

totally fabulous cover…. very clever… and Frank would make the right choice though maybe not for the right reasons…

PS: I'd still love to see Pokemon vs the Evil Dead. "Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down!"

@Bob & Cary; I only remember from his ALL-STAR SQUADRON appearance. And, as I recall, he was a Golden Age Sandman foe. A professor of mythology whose college students derisively called him "Fairy Tales" Fenton.

Holy King Tut, Batman!

@Anon711: I stand corrected. :-)
