The Phantom Stranger and 8 Famous Co-Stars

For the conclusion of this Five-Part Epic, we see that The Enchantress' lost love was none other than King Arthur of Camelot 3000.  Let's wish our STF couples some peaceful times ahead after all they've been through. Hey, nobody said comic book romances wound be easy.

This marks the 15th Appearance of The Power Couple, The 29th Appearance of the WW/Cap romance and the 11th appearance of The Hercules/Vixen romance.

Sorry, but this doesn't work for me. P.S. isn't going to have power to get Enchantress somewhere she can't do on her own.He might have info on where the King was and she didn't. That would be easy to believe.
BUT, that her big love is a human??? Considering Enchantress' love of power, she is going to lose her heart to someone "beneath" her super powerful royal self?

In the words of some who are still looked upon so rightfully,
THAT DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!

First off? Congratulations to the Anonymous from 9:08 yesterday morning! Your prediction was spot-on (unlikely as it seemed to the rest of us at the time).

As to King Arthur being beneath her (socio-politically)? He's the son of a king by a duchess via the magical matchmaking of Merlin! Plus, he was more-or-less sanctified when his own half-sister ferried him (with the help of the Lady of the Lake and one other*) to the island of Avalon. Home of the Celtic Pantheon (at least, in the Marvel Multiverse)!

And let us not forget that, during her initial hots for Thor, she did not look down upon his civilian identity of phyiscally lame Dr. Donald Blake.

*Plus, who's to say Amora wasn't that one other?

@ Carycomic: given Marvel's mix-and-match mythologizing, what do you wanna bet that Merlin might even be Thor's half-brother on their All-father's side? A genealogical possibility that might persuade Merlin to give the Phantom Stranger a little power boost from behind the scenes.

Seriously, it’s a comic book.

Kudos to the Anon who guessed Arthur 3000 as Amora's love interest. I had my doubts about it, but after seeing this discussion, I could see Arthur having some divine blood on his mother's side (perhaps she was the daughter of one of Zeus' lesser-known sons; I figure Arthur is definitely the son of Uther).

PS: I do think we could do with a few more ongoing romances here. The big question is, who? I'd be in favor of HarleyPool; I just suggested Mystique and Question II; I could see Gar Logan getting things started with Squirrel Girl (despite his tendency to flirt with the more curvaceous types); and for some reason I'm liking the idea of Tim Drake and Cassie Lang becoming an item.

And... Could Scott Lang be Lana's cousin? How about a team-up between Ant-Man and Insect Queen?

@Bob G: already done! See STF #2238.

Sorry, Mr. Greenwade: but, I prefer Tim and Jubilee as a canonical couple. On the other hand, Scott Lang marrying Julia Carpenter, thereby making Cassie and Rachel stepsisters, is something I would not be averse to seeing in real-world Marvel mags! If only as a latter-day "What If...?" story.

Yeah, because love always makes complete and total sense, right? 😜

@Anon@12:05: If you're not going to make your citation a link, you could at least give the month and year, or let me know which of the five combos I mentioned you're referring to.

Now that I've found it, though, I do stand corrected. It's nice seeing Scott and Lana team up, and as fun as it'd be to see the pairing revisited, I can understand why that probably won't happen.

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: Tim & Jubilee would be fine. I was just trying to come up with a good match for Cassie. (Maybe Gar for her instead of Squirrel Girl?)

And speaking of Squirrel Girl, I keep thinking (and have mentioned before) that she and Bouncing Boy could start a team of easily-underestimated heroes, if we could come up with more. (The Flaming Carrot would be one candidate.)

I feel like finding specific posts is a bit of a hassle sometimes. "See STF #" doesn't exactly help when the site is organized by character or maybe I'm missing something.

I don't expect Ross or anyone to go back and add numbers to EVERY post to make them 'easier' to search for, that would be insane.

Ross said...

Just click on the labels to search, usually only a page or two for each character.

@What Ross said. I've no difficulty with his system. So...

Any chance of seeing Ditko’s Killjoy of The Odd Man?

As Lucas Falconer's daughter might say; "There's a slim Chance."

P.S. @ Bob Greenwade: you don't have to steal that one, either. I'm also a donor to the Public Domain. :-)

@Ross: I did also point out that I'd proposed five different pairings, and all the Anon said was "Already done!" I couldn't know whether to search Harley Quinn, Deadpool, Mystique,* Changeling, Squirrel girl, Tim Drake, Stature, Ant-Man, or Lana Lang. It turned out to be either of the last two, but it would've been more of a pain to try them all one at a time than it was to hunt for it by narrowing down the numbers by date.

*Renee Montoya (The Question II) has yet to appear on the blog.
