The boots alone would make this a great team-up. It's surprising how many heroes had those buccaneer boots back in the day. They always looked a bit heavy and tough to run in, but I guess they provided decent calf protection. Plus, they looked cool - and isn't that what's really important in a superhero costume?
These two will eventually join forces in The A-Listers...

nice dramatic atmosphere. Just needs some dramatic music to complete the scene.
Just be glad these two stalwarts didn't have to wear jodhpurs like Doc Savage! The upper portion of the legs always looked like over-inflated balloons to me. But, then, I wasn't trained to sacrifice fashion-consciousness for pragmatism like Doc was. :-)
My first thought, re: today's cover, is that Cap and A-Man were on Dinosaur Island (from "The War That Time Forgot" series in DC's WEIRD WAR TALES). But, now I'm wondering if they might actually be in Wakanda's Serpent Valley trying to get A-Man's hands on some vibranium ore. Neutral Wakanda having already filled the quota of exported vibranium the U.S. War Department (reluctantly) agreed to.
Doctor Mid-Nite also wore those types of boot. When I cosplayed him a couple of years ago, the boots were horrible, but it was because of the way they fit, not because of the buccaneer flaps. In fact, the flaps are hardly noticeable when wearing them (I have a better-fitting pair for Hondo Ohnaka).
Nowadays plenty of people will complain that costumes aren't practical. And there was a resurgence of those when the MCU hit big and when My Hero Academia became mainstream amongst anime fans (before they went in on the "romance") but you know what? It makes people who like to draw on the side and create neat designs have to limit themselves because everyone wants to be a critic, but they never put the effort into drawing their own.
Sometimes, people just want to draw something that was cool, you know? These boots may not be practical (although Amazing Man's headgear actually is a smart choice when you think about it.) but MAN are they cool, and that's what matters in the end, doesn't it?
Great image! Always great to see Amazing Man. One of my favorites from the pages of All-Star Squadron. The mighty Captain America seems to work for a team-up with just about any character.
Much as I like this, I'm a little disappointed. I thought you were finally going to do a cover with 'Mazing Man!
I was half-expecting Malibu/Centaur's John Aman!
