Speedy Gonzales Vs. Sonic The Hedgehog

This seems like a race that's long overdue.  I wasn't a big player of the main Sonic games back in the day, I found them to be a bit repetitive.  I did like Sonic Spinball a lot, and still pull that one out to play from time to time.  I of course enjoyed the Speedy Gonzales cartoons, but I have to admit I more closely identified with his cousin, Slowpoke Rodriguez.

@Ross: I just hope you don't pack a gun like Senor Slowpoke!*

*LOL!

The race would be great, but the story...?

Maybe they're doing the race as a public event for charity (maybe to help migrant workers in the Southwest, DACA youth, or some such), and Dr. Robotnik recruits Sylvester in a scheme to capture the duo along the route. Sylvester is initially eager, of course, but becomes increasingly convinced that this was a bad idea.

Yes! It took about a year-and-a-half. But, my wish finally came true.

Thanks, Ross! :-D

@Cary: Didn't Slowpoke have hypnotic powers or something?

Either way, I love this pairing!:)

Funny cover, but I was thinking you were going to use one of the Superman/Flash race covers to get spectators.

It's been ages since I've commented on any of these pics.

How about using the Peanuts character Woodstock with at least 1 of the Green Lantern Corps?

Also teaming up villain duos like Dc's Cannon & Sabre, Night & Fog or Bug & Byte with ones from Marvel like Hammer & Anvil, etc. for some new team up angles for the site.

Looking over your labels at the side I don't see Godiva or her group the Global Guardians on there yet. I was surprised you hadn't teamed her up with her red haired counterpart to take on Spider Girl or even Thor's Quicksand foe. Also Aquaman had a fire haired villainess on an old 60s cover of his who was simply named Karla.

@Daviticus: you're thinking of Jerry's stage mage cousin Merlin from the Tom and Jerry cartoon "Haunted Mouse" (MGM; 1965).

The winner of this race will obviously be the Road Runner. beep beep!!

@Wild Card: unless Godzilla Kentucky-fried his his tail feathers

Not the Hanna-Barbera version, of course! But, the one from the animated spin-off to the American-made fiasco that starred Matthew Broderick. Permanently known hereafter as "Brodzilla."

Carycomic said...

Hmmmm! Come to think of it, why not have "H-B Godzilla vs. Fox Brodzilla"?

Daviticus said...

@"Unknown": No, I'm quite certain it was a Speedy/Sylvester cartoon. Perhaps it was an alternate ending? :)

I thought they (Toho) just called him "Zilla" because they took the God out of Godzilla.

iirc the Baby that starred in the 1998 cartoon series/sequel to the movie though was christened "Godzilla Junior" by Toho because it was a more faithful Godzilla than the movie version.

Sylvester would be increasingly worries Eggman will turn hin into a robot.

Speedy has already met one of the Flashes (Wally, it would have been), in a DC-published comic (a limited series that saw a whole bunch of Looney Tunes characters granted honorary membership in the JLA), so maybe that's where he got the idea of a race for charity.

If I remember their words correctly:
Flash: "I have to say, you're pretty fast for a mouse."
Speedy: "And you, senor, are pretty fast for somebody who doesn't get chased by a cat."

Oh, and does anybody else here remember Pat Boone's song 'Come home Speedy Gonzales'?
Which reminds me, in turn, that Pat Boone briefly had a comic himself -- and appeared in one issue of [IIRC] 'Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane'... so who could he be teamed-up with in STF?

A Gold Key version of Fess Parker as Daniel Boone, perhaps?

@Anon133: Hey! That would make a nice daikaiju clash. Godzilla (any indie comic version) vs. the Golden Age (Toho-ho!) Green Giant.

Is there one?

As a matter of fact, there are fifteen! Published by Gold Key circa 1965-66.

Okay, then, that works (and thank you for the information).
