Robin and The New Mutants

I remember being excited about the arrival of the New Mutants.  As crazy as it sounds now, a spinoff ongoing comic from The Uncanny X-Men was a new thing, and I could get on the ground floor.  Well, not exactly the ground floor.  I remember being frustrated that their debut was made in a graphic novel, only available in comic shops.  It would be years before I got my hands on that first chapter.

This is so good on _so many_ fronts! First off, there's the way Rahne "Wolfsbane" Sinclair blends in so well, next to Tim Drake-as-Robin, that you initially had me wondering just how you managed to fit Ace the Bat-hound in there.

Then, there's also the likelihood where you'll do a sequel to this pastiche where Tim finally meets his one true love; Jubilee.

Who knows? This could even be a prequel to Sunspot's learning that Beatriz "Green Fire" DaCosta is actually his half-sister!

A fresh approach and a great pairing. The potentials are way up there. Great job.

Only two commentators? :-(

Everybody must be taking end-of-season vacations.

Great pairing, Ross. Given how hot tempered they were, I could see the New Mutants quitting Xavier's before being expelled but this works too. Nice job finding images that show off how much Tim's cape matches the kids' uniforms. Favorite issue of New Mutants was when Art Adams designed individual costumes for each. Would have been great to see Tom Lyle do the same in the Rossverse.

Speaking of, could have sworn that image of Time was by Tom instead of Stan. Probably just my predisposition to associate Tom as THE Tim Drake artist.

I always thought the best Robin costume ever worn by Dick Grayson was the one initially designed by the late, great Neal Adams for the grown-up Robin of Earth 2 (in JLA v.1/#92).

If they were to get individual costumes designed in the Rossverse, what's the betting that the [IC] designer would specify "No capes!" ;)

I agree, but -- failing that-- I think that Tim's was better than any of the other earlier ones.
