I thought that this would be a suitable set of match ups as these are a couple of pairs of characters that mirror each other. When I found similar poses, the concept wrote itself.
Mongul here is by the incredibly talented Kevin Maguire. I was lucky enough to pick up a couple of original pages by him several years back, one being a pencils-only page which I really like:

What a spectacular cover. Great matchups all around and just so you know… I’d buy this in a heartbeat!! Another great job!
No doubt about it! Kevin Maguire knows his action-related stuff.
Cool! Of course you used the same background image for both panels, and while the big purple streak is probably just a nebula or something similar it could be indicative of an MCU-styled interdimensional breach. So, this story could be happening in parts of the STF multiverse that parallel the standard DC and Marvel universes, but Mon-El and Gladiator have somehow switched places and are duking it out with enemies with whom the other started the story. Thanos and Mongul clearly have some agenda with the rift, but is it coincidence or are they working together? Are they trying to merge, and combine their power? If so, will Access be stepping in?
@BobGreenWade
I think we're looking at Part 1 or 2 of a 3 part storyline, with the next installment being a prequel story explaining how we got here and a finale showing how it ends.
I second that emotion. :-)
Actually, I'd be good with this being a self-contained story -- though I'd certainly welcome a few companion pieces, where other pairs of heroes and pairs of villains face similarly parallel events. (Admittedly, the heroes will probably be easier to find art for than the villains.)
Just idly curious: is that Comet Queen from LSH battling Reed Richards? Or Frances "Frankie" Raye-Horton (aka Nova II)?
